Bulldogs, Hearts, Shoes Win Again in Tennis Competition

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Flora and claimed a 6-3 win over the Wolves Thursday in tennis competition.
The Bulldogs took the top two singles spots as Claire Wortman won 6-4, 7-6 (2) and Kelly Rentfrow went three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 10-3.
St. Anthony then took the No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Mary Ann Saba won 6-4, 5-7, 11-9 and Madison McWhorter pulled out a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 win.
In doubles play, Rentfrow and Wegman combined to win at No. 1, 7-6 (6), 6-2 and Wortman-Megan Hodge were winners 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3.
The Bulldogs also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 7-3.

At Paris
Effingham High School claimed an 8-1 victory over Paris in Thursday action.
The Hearts picked up five singles wins and swept in doubles. Chloe Funneman won at No. 1, 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 while Megan Allen claimed the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-2. Lauryn Douthit won at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, Skyer Schafer at No. 5, 6-4, 6-0 and Miranda Johnson at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3
In doubles, Kull and Allen won 8-1 while Funneman and Douthit combined for an 8-1 victory. Schafer and Kyra Bannister finished out with an 8-0 win.

The Braves of Mount Zion took the No. 1 singles match and the No. 1 doubles match but that was all as Teutopolis captured a 7-2 win to remain unbeaten at 6-0.
T-town's Christa Schwinke was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 2. Lauren Hemmen won 7-6 (1), 6-3 while Sidney Brumleve claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win. Audra Breer and Molly Smith were 6-0, 6-1 winners.
In doubles, Hemmen and Smith combined to win 7-6 (3), 6-0 while Julia Hardiek and Nicole Deters lost the opener 6-3 but battled back for 7-5, 1-0(4) wins.
