Effingham Blanks Paris, 9-0

Effingham High School had an easy time in downing Paris 9-0 in varsity tennis action Thursday for its third straight 9-0 score this week.
The Hearts' top two players, Lauren Hoekstra and Madisson Haake easily handled their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Claudia Vinuella-Ayllon downed her opponent at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1. Kaitlyn Gurley picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Shelby Funneman won 6-3, 6-0 and Emma Kull claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
In doubles play, Gurley and Haake took the top spot, 8-3. Funneman and Kull won 8-1. Gabby Klein and Bethany Vail were 8-4 winners.
"This was our third team sweep this week," said EHS assistant coach Sara Johnson. "Everyone's game has improved greatly in a short amount of time and the girls are showing a new level of confidence which is especially evident in our doubles matches."
