Greenville Hands St. Anthony Tennis Loss, EHS Blanks Newton

Greenville High School handed Effingham St. Anthony a 6-3 loss in tennis competition Tuesday.
The Bulldogs picked up two singles victories. Jay Niebrugge won at No. 1, 6-4, 7-5. Jeff Niebrugge then captured the No. 5 spot. He lost the opener 6-2 but came back with 6-4, 7-6 scores for the win.
In doubles, Alec Niebrugge and Ian Harris won at the No. 2 spot, 10-6. The Bulldogs drop to 9-3 on the season and twill be back in action Thursday at Teutopolis.

No. 1 -- Jay Niebrugge (SA) defeated Mitch Cole (G), 6-4, 7-5
No. 2 -- Silas Groves (G) defeated Alec Niebrugge (SA), 6-1, 6-3

No. 3 -- Cole-Oesterich (G) defeated Saba-Donovan Hammer (SA), 10-4
At Effingham
Effingham blanked Newton 9-0 to even its record at 4-4 on the season.
Aaron Conley, Drake Hill, Ashton Haythrone, Matt Niebrugge, Jake Gadberry and Nick Katz were all winners in singles play. The cloaest match came at No. 6 as Katz beat Faron Bartens 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(5).
In doubles play, Hill and Jared Minor combined to win at No. 1. Conley and Niebrugge were winners at No. 2 while Haythrone and Gadberry finished out the doubles wins.
"This was a good win for the boys as we prepare for the Apollo Conference Tournament," said EHS Coach Kaye Kimpling.
