Teutopolis Tennis Duo Wins, Shoes Take Second at Charger Doubles Invite

CHAMPAIGN -- One area champion emerged out of the Champaign Centennial Charger Doubles Tennis Invitational Saturday. The Teutopolis duo of Christian Deters and Alex Probst finished in first place in the No. 4 doubles.

The pair defeated Brand and Rhine of Mattoon, 6-1, 6-1, then downed a duo, Velasco-Walker from Mount Zion, 6-1, 6-2. The pair then won over Olney's Hindrickson/Stallard, 6-2, 6-1. In the championship match, Spihlman and Patel fell to the Wooden Shoes, 6-2, 6-4.

Mitch Meinhart and Noah Pals took second place at the No. 3 doubles. Trevor Lee and Jacob Mette finished third at No. 2 while teammates Andy Mersman and Nick Pals took third at the No. 1 spot.

O'Fallon won the team championship with 30 points while Teutopolis took second with 28. Following the top two were Champaign Centennial 27, Effingham St. Anthony 15, Olney 14, Bloomington Central Catholic 13.5, Mattoon 11, Mount Zion 9, Centralia 8.5, Effingham 6, Champaign St. Thomas More 5.5, Bloomington 5.5, Urbana Uni-High 5, Normal West 4, Robinson 2 and Charleston 0.

Effingham St. Anthony's Jeff Niebrugge and Andy Saba finished fourth at the No. 3 doubles. Jay Niebrugge and Chris Jones finished tied for fifth place at No. 1. Martelli and Hartke finished tied for fifth at the No. 4 doubles.

Effingham competed but did not place any players.
