Bulldogs, Shoes Win In Tennis, EHS Drops Match

Effingham St. Anthony High School swept through tennis singles and doubles to blank Newton 10-0 Monday evening.
The Bulldogs won all six singles matches as Jay Niebrugge, Chris Jones, Ian Harris, Jeff Niebrugge, Andy Saba and Ryan Kroeger were successful.
In doubles, the two squads competed in four matches. Jay and Jeff Niebrugge combined at the No. 1 spot while A. Niebrugge and Harris won at No. 2, both with 6-1, 6-1 scores. Tommy Schottman and Donovan Hammer were 6-3, 6-4 winners. Chandler Martelli and Kyle Hartke won 6-1, 6-4.
The Bulldogs are now 3-0 on the season.

Mattoon handed Effingham a 6-3 loss in a match originally scheduled for Effingham but moved to Mattoon.
The Hearts picked up two wins in singles. Aaron Conley won at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3 while teammate Matt Niebrugge captured the No. 5 spot, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, Conley and Matt Linders combined at No. 3 to win, 6-1, 6-3.

Teutopolis handed Greenville an 8-1 defeat. Sweeping through the singles action were Andy Mersman, Nick Pals, Mitch Meinhart, Trevor Lee, Jacob Mette and Christian Deters.
In doubles play, the Wooden Shoes picked up victories at No. 1 and No. 2. Mersman and Pals combined to win 6-1, 6-0 while Lee and Mette claimed 6-1, 6-3 wins.
The Shoes are now 4-0 on the season.
T-town also claimed a junior varsity doubles match 5-0.
