Bulldogs Down Hearts, Olney Beats T-town

It was a crosstown rival match as Effingham St. Anthony played host to Effingham in high school tennis action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs came out the victor by a 7-2 count. St. Anthony took five of the six singles matches as Anna Schutzbach, Tierney Hammer, Mary Claire Wegman, Claire Wortman and Chloe Malone claimed wins. Effingham's lone win came at No. 1 as Emma Kull won in three sets.

Iin doubles action, Rentfrow and Schutzbach combined at No. 1 to win 6-7, 6-1, 6-1. The Bulldogs also took the No. 2 spot as Hammer and Wegman won 6-2, 6-2. Effingham's win came as Tori Sims and Ashley Workman combined to win 6-4, 7-5.

The Bulldogs also won a junior varsity match 3-1.

At St. Anthony

At Olney

Olney edged Teutopolis 5-4 in action Tuesday. T-town and Olney split victories in the singles matches.

T-town's Kaitlin Deters was a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 winner at No. 1 singles. Christa Schwinke also went three sets to win 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 at No. 3. Lauren Hemmen took the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 6-3

In doubles play, T-town claimed only one spot at No. 2. Deters and Hemmen were 6-3, 6-0 winners.

The Wooden Shoes are now 3-5 on the season.
