T-town Downs EHS, St. A Blanks Salem in Tennis Action

Teutopolis is on a roll. The Wooden Shoes picked up their second tennis victory of the season by downing Effingham 8-1 Thursday.

Kaitlin Deters picked up the No. 1 singles victory, 6-2, 6-3 for the Shoes. The Hearts won the second singles match as Shelby Funneman went 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. Then the Shoes took the next four singles matches as Audra Breer won 6-3, 6-0, Lauren Hemmen won 6-4, 6-2, Taylor Hartke won 7-5, 5-7, 10-6 and Sarah Thoele won 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles play, the Shoes swept. Schwinke and Breer won 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 at the top spot. Deters and L. Hemmen went 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 and Claire Hemmen-Allison Apke were winners 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.

The Shoes are now 2-2 on the season. Both the Hearts and the Shoes will be back in action Saturday at the Mattoon Invitational.

St. Anthony blanked Salem 9-0 Thursday. Kelly Rentfrow was a winner at the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-1. Anna Schutzbach took No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. Tierney Hammer won 6-2, 6-1 followed by Mary Claire Wegman winning 7-5, 6-2, Claire Wortman winning 6-0, 6-1 and Chloe Malone winning 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Rentfrow and Schutzbach won 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Hammer and Megan Hodge won 6-2, 6-1. Wortman and Malone took the third match 6-1, 6-3.
