Wooden Shoes Pick Up First Tennis Victory

VANDALIA -- Teutopolis High School picked up its first tennis victory of the season by downing Vandalia 7-2 Monday evening. The Shoes are now 1-2.
T-town took the No. 2 through No. 6 singles spots as Christa Schwinke won 6-2, 1-6, 10-7; Audra Breer won 6-1, 6-0; Lauren Hemmen won 6-3, 6-1; Taylor Hartke won 6-1, 6-0 and Sarah Thoele won 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles, Vandalia took the top spot but the Shoes won the next two matches. Kaitlin Deters and L. Hemmen combined to win 12-0. Allison Apke and Claire Hemmen were winners 12-3.
"The girls are really improving," said T-town Coach Kaye Kimpling.
T-town is back in action at Effingham Thursday.
