EHS Wins Apollo Conference Tournament Title

MOUNT ZION -- The Effingham High School tennis team are Apollo Conference champions after winning the tournament held Friday and Saturday at Mount Zion.

The Hearts won with 27 points followed by Mattoon 18.5, Mount Zion 14, Charleston 12, Paris 6.5 and Salem 6.

The doubles team of Isaac Foreman and Jason Wohltman took their championship.  They defeated a pair from Matoton 6-0, 6-0 then won over a Mount Zion duo 6-0, 6-4. In the title match, they defeated their own teammates, Jared Minor and Parth Maheshwari, 6-2, 6-0 for the championship. Minor and Maheshwari defeated a team from Mount Zion 6-3, 7-5 and a team from Mattoon 2-6,k 6-3l, 7-5 to reach the title contest.

In singles play, Aaron Meyers defeated Nick Larimee of Mount Zion 6-4, 6-3 before losing to Hutner Levingston of Matoton 6-2,k 6-2. He then downed his own teammate Wyatt WOhltman 7-6, 6-3 to finish third.

Wohltman took fourth after winning over Gunenr Davis of Mattoon 6-2, 6-1 and Rafael Santos of Mount Zion 6-4, 6-3 before losing to Alex Gowin of Charlesotn 6-1, 6-0.

Meyers, Foreman, Wohltman, Minor and Maheshwari earned All-Conference team awards.
