Four Area Schools Advance to Regional Softball Finals

Four area junior high schools advanced to regional softball finals after action Saturday. Effingham and Jasper County advanced in Class AA action while Cumberland and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will be competing for Class A titles.
Class 2AA Sullivan Regional
Second-seeded Effingham squared off against host Sullivan, seeded third, and came out a 12-3 winner in the second game of the day.
Winning the opener was Mattoon 12-5 over Teutopolis. Mattoon tallied runs in every inning but one while T-town scored all five of its runs in the fifth inning.
T-town had four hits, all singles by four different players. Mattoon banged out 15 hits in the contest and was aided by seven T-town errors.
T-town ends the season with a 6-13 record. Mattoon advances to meet Effingham at 4:30 p.m. today at Wyman Park.

Class AA Charleston Regional
Jasper County (Newton) advanced to the championship game today at 4:30 p.m. at Charleston Middle School against host Charleston.
Charleston won the opening game Saturday 9-3 over Paris Mayo. Jasper County tallied a 7-2 win in the second contest.
Class A Ramsey Regional
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will meet Findlay Okaw Valley in the title game of the Ramsey Regional today at 4:30 p.m.
Findlay-Okaw Valley handed Mulberry Grove a 5-3 loss in the opening game of the day.
In the second contest, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg defeated Altamont 9-1. Altamont led 1-0 after the first inning but Windsor/S-S came back with three runs in the second and never looked back.
Megan Schlechte picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts. Hitting big for the winners were Carson Cole with three singles and Schlechte with four singles and two RBI.
Leading Altamont was Kaitlyn Hoene with a single. Altamont ends the season at 10-11 overall.

Class A Cumberland Regional
Effingham St. Anthony saw its season come to a close in the opening game Saturday of semifinal round action at the Cumberland Regional.
The Bullpups fell to always tough Casey-Westfield 14-0.
In the second contest, Cumberland edged Oblong 2-1, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Macey McElravy pushed her pitching record to 9-2 by going all seven innings, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out nine.
Claire Guyon led Cumberland in hitting with two singles. Cumberland, seeded second, now faces top-seeded Casey-Westfield today at 4:30 p.m. for the regional title.
