St. A/Sacred Heart, EJHS Win in Junior High Softball

Effingham St. Anthony/Sacred Heart took a 1-0 first inning lead over Teutopolis and went on for a 10-2 victory in girls junior high softball action Monday.
St. Anthony/Sacred Heart had 10 hits in the contest while T-town committed five errors. A. Day led St. Anthony/Sacred Heart with three singles and three RBI while Mills and Having had two singles each. Having added an RBI.
Beckman led T-town with a single and two RBI.

At Effingham
Effingham edged Cumberland 9-8 and held off a final inning challenge. The Mustangs led 9-4 going into the final inning when Cumberland rallied, scoring four runs only to fall short.
"We were very aggressive on the bases and capitlized on Cumberland's throwing errors," said Effingham Coach Megan Whitacre. "During the fourth and fifth innings our bats were hot with seven of our total 10 hits. Grace Lybarger came in to pinch run for Armstrong and scored two runs. Chloe Funneman also was a pinch runner and scored a run. Although Cumberland made a comeback in the top of the seventh, our defense stayed confident and was able to get the win as a team."
Effingham had 10 hits in the contest led by Vanessa Ramos and Kaitlyn Kinkelaar with two singles each. Miranda Fox and Lauryn Douthit had a double each. Fox added an RBI.
