Teutopolis, Windsor/Stew-Stras Nab Softball Wins

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School played five innings to down Vandalia, 14-4 in softball competition Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes ran out to a 5-0 opening inning lead then added on three more runs in the second. 

Vandalia came back with two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to pull within 8-4 but T-town finished the game in the fifth with six runs to win by the 10-run rule.

Coach Crystal Tipton's team finished with 12 hits led by Chloe Hoene with three singles, a double and an RBI, Kayleigh Zerrusen a single, double and three RBI, Jersey Gaddis a single, double and two RBI and Olivia Wermert a single and two RBI.

Alyssa Tipton won on the mound. She went all five innings, giving up four runs on four hits, five walks while striking out nine.

At Villa Grove

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's offense continues to be strong as the Hatchets finished with 10 hits and an 11-1 win over Villa Grove in six innings Thursday.

The Hatchets had four extra base hits out of the 10 put up on the scoreboard. Mya Friese had a single, home run and drove in three while Samantha Hayes finished with two singles, a double and an RBI. Clarissa Johnson contributed a single, double and drove in three while Kendra Hayes had a double and an RBI.

S. Hayes also produced defensively as she took the mound, throwing all six innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks. She struck out 10 batters.

All four hits for Villa Grove were singles.
