Murphy USA Claims Girls Minor League Tourney Title, Truck Sales Wins in Prep Tourney

Murphy USA handed Heart & Home Realty a 14-4 loss in the championship game of the Girls Minor League Softball Tournament Tuesday evening at Evergreen Hollow Park.

In games earlier in the evening, Murphy USA beat Martin's IGA Plus 17-3 while Heart & Home Realty downed Chesnut Family Music 8-2 to advance to the title game.

Murphy USA trailed Martin's IGA 3-0 after one inning but had a nine-run second and an eight-run third. Riley Guy picked up the one-hit pitching win.

In the second contest, Heart & Home Realty took a 2-1 first inning lead and went on to down Chesnut Family Music. Heart & Home had six hits led by Allie Poe with a three-run homer. Alexis Stephens pitched the two-hit win.

In the championship game, Murphy USA took a 5-1 first inning lead and never looked back. Murphy USA had seven hits in the contest while Caroline McDevitt pitched a four-hitter. McDevitt won the overall sportsmanship award.

GIRLS PREP TOURNAMENT

Effingham Truck Sales won an opening round game in the Girls Prep League Tournament Tuesday evening at Evergreen Hollow Park.

Truck Sales bounced REMAX 17-6 in four innings. Truck Sales took a 3-2 opening inning lead then had a six-run second, a three-run third and a five-run fourth.

Katie Kabbes was the winning pitcher and also hit a home run. Effingham Truck Sales advances to meet Joe's Pizza & Pasta today at 5:30 p.m. on the East Diamond. In the other game, Crossroads Bank faces Spectrum Screen Graphics at 5:30 p.m in West Diamond. The winners advance to the championship game at 7:30 p.m. today.
