Junior High Softball -- Sept. 4 Results

Vandalia played host to Effingham St. Anthony in junior high softball action Wednesday and edged the Bullpups by a 6-5 tally.

Vandalia took a 1-0 opening inning lead and St. Anthony tied in the top of the second but Vandalia moved ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the frame. The Bullpups then scored three in the top of the fourth to lead 4-3 but Vandalia tied in the fifth. St. Anthony again moved ahead in the top of the sixth but Vandalia scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the 6-5 victory.

The Bullpups were led in hitting by Mallory Litz with a double, Michaela Prange with a single and two 1 RBI and Morgan Lustig and Peyton Clark with a single and an 1 RBI each.

Vandalia had only one hit compared to six for St. Anthony.

At Toledo

Cumberland captured a junior high softball victory over Oblong by a 12-2 score Wednesday.

Cumberland ripped out to an 11-1 opening inning lead. Oblong scored a run in the top of the fifth  but Cumberland came back to end the game with a run in the bottom of the frame.

Brittlin Murphy threw a no-hitter.

Josie Smith led the way in hitting with a triple and two RBI. Murphy and Emi Brading had a single and an RBI each. Lilly McMechan also had an RBI.

South Central trounced Odin by a 17-1 count in three innings Wednesday.

Rylan Williams threw a no-hitter with seven walks and eight strikeouts and also led her team in hitting with two singles, a triple and three RBI.

The Falcons led 12-1 after the first inning and never looked back.

South Central's other big hitters were Ophie Lowry with a double and an RBI and Annie Ruholl and Alexa Gile with a single and an RBI each.

Neoga claimed a 15-11 victory over Paris Crestwood in six innings Wednesday.

The two teams were tied at 2-2 in the first inning. Neoga broke free with six runs in the second and had a seven-run fourth.

Neoga finished with 13 hits, five of those for extra bases. Maddi Frankie had two doubles and three RBI. Kenzie Bell with a single, triple and three RBI, Chloe Frankie with a single, triple and two RBI and Lillian Denson with a single and triple. Reyna Coy added two singles and two RBI and Keeli McKay a single and two RBI.

Lola Hartke was the winning pitcher. She went three innings, allowing four runs on five hits, three walks and striking out one.

At Neoga

Jasper County fell to Mattoon in Wednesday action by a 6-2 tally.

Mattoon had nine hits and was aided by three Jasper County errors.

Jasper County (11-3) was led in hitting by Paige Wagner with a double and two RBI and Hailey Mulvey with a single.

North Clay improved to 2-10 and is back in action today against Neoga.
