Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School outlasted Mulberry Grove in a high-scoring softball contest Monday by a 17-15 count.

Mulberry Grove took a 6-2 first inning lead but the Bullpups came back with seven runs to move ahead 9-6 in the second. St. Anthony led 12-7 in the third inning and 16-10 in the fourth. Mulberry Grove came back with five runs in the fifth to pull within 16-15 and the Bullpups added a final run in the bottom of the frame.

Both teams had seven hits. St. Anthony was led by Mallory Litz with a single, triple and two RBI and Morgan Lustig and Cheyenne Barker with a triple and an RBI each.

Khushi Patel picked up the pitching win, allowing seven hits, walking six and striking out seven.

At Effingham

At Effingham

Effingham edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead before Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City tied in the second. The Mustangs then broke loose with 15 runs in the third to end the game with a 16-1 victory Monday.

Cloie Bailey held CHBC to only one hit while striking out eight. She walked only two.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs had eight hits and drew five walks. Kendyl Smith and Kenley Moore had two singles and two RBI each while Mady Hoffman added a single and three RBI and Mackynzie Hites had a single and two RBI.

Anna Hart had the lone hit for the Bobcats with a single.

At Toledo

Jasper County improved to 6-2 on the season with a 6-1 victory over Cumberland Monday.

The Eagles stepped out to a 2-0 opening inning lead then tallied two more runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh. Cumberland's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh.

Cumberland outhit Jasper County 5-4. The winners were led by Mabry Wolf with two singles and two RBI, Jossie Stanley with a single and an RBI and Scarlett Meinhart with an RBI.

Cumberland was led by Brittlin Murphy with a single and double and Brylee Holsapple with a single and an RBI.

Hailey Mulvey allowed one run on five hits, no walks while striking out 10 for the win in the mound.

Neoga got the offense started in the first inning, scoring 10 runs against Cerro Gordo/Bement and ended with a 16-1 victory in four innings Monday.

Lola Hartke threw a one-hitter with no walks while striking out six.

Meanwhile, Neoga finished with 15 hits. Maddi Frankie had a double, home run and three RBI while Maleah Coy finished with two singles, a double and four RBI and Lillian Denson two singles, a double and two RBI. Adding two singles were Reyna Coy and Hartke. Coy had two RBI while Hartke had one. Chloe Frankie singled and had two RBI.

At Bement

At Kinmundy

South Central was on offensively, finishing with 17 hits in a 13-3 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in six innings Monday.

Windsor/Stew-Stras edged out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. But South Central came back with one in the third and moved ahead 4-2 in the fourth. The winners then put the game on ice with eight runs in the fifth.

South Central had 17 hits led by Emmie Ruholl with three singles and two RBI, Alex Gile with two singles, a double and an RBI, Bella McDowell with three singles and an RBI. Annie Ruholl had two singles and two RBI while Claire Chasteen and Skylar Webster added two singles and an RBI each. Kyndl Bolen and Rylan Williams had a single and drove in a run each.

A. Ruholl threw a seven-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Kalia Friese, Kinsley Dunaway and Arora Rincker with two singles each. Friese added an RBI.

North Clay/Clay City fell to West Salem in Monday action, 25-2.

North Clay/Clay City dropped to 1-5 on the season and is back in action today against Olney St. Joseph at 4:30 p.m.
