Effingham Junior HIgh School held on to outlast Teutopolis in a softball battle between the two schools Thursday.

The Mustangs took a 6-2 opening inning lead and led 13-4 after three innings. But Teutopolis came back with single runs in the fourth and fifth and six in the top of the sixth to pull within 13-12. The Mustangs tallied two more in the bottom of the sixth to lead 15-12. The Wooden Shoes came back with a run in the seventh only to fall short.

There were a whopping 37 hits between the two schools. Effingham had 21 led by Kendyl Smith with three singles, a double and three RBI, Mady Hoffman with four singles and an RBI, Elizabeth Kreke with two singles, a double and two RBI, Mackynzie Hites with three singles and two RBI and Cloie Bailey with three singles and an RBI

T-town had 16 hits but only first names were listed.

Kreke picked up the pitching victory for Effingham, going six innings, allowing 12 runs on 15 hits, one walk and striking out seven.

At Sigel

Sigel St. Michael played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and captured a 16-1 win in three innings Thursday.

The Sharpshooters shot out to a 9-1 opening inning lead, had a two-run second and a five-run third.

Both teams had two hits each. St. Michael listed first names only.

CHBC was led by Anna Hart with a triple and Harper Lilly with a single.

CHBC pitchers gave up 14 walks in the contest.

At St. Elmo

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was an 18-5 winner over St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday.

WSS edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and held a 6-2 lead after four innings. The Hatchets then had six-run innings in the fifth and sixth.

The winners banged out 19 hits in the contest led by Kalia Friese with three singles, a double and three RBI, Kinsley Dunaway with two singles, a double and two RBI, Reese Stigers with two singles, a double and an RBI, Callie Holland with three singles and three RBI, Arora Rincker with a single and double, Gia Bostedo with two singles and two RBI, Izzi Manhart with a single and two RBI and Maddy Manhart with a single and an RBI.

Friese picked up the pitching win, going five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, no walks and striking out eight.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Kadence Speagle with two singles, a double and an RBI, Isabelle Orr, Emily Townsend and Chloe White with a triple each. Orr added an RBI. Brooklyn Buxton had a single and two RBI.

At Paris

Paris Mayo played host to Cumberland and picked up a 7-3 victory Thursday.

Cumberland was led in hitting by Lilly McMechan and Brittlin Murphy with two singles and an RBI each. Emi Brading had the other hit, a single.

Murphy went four innings on the mound, allowing four runs on four hits, two walks and striking out four in taking the loss. Kyndall Strohl finished three  innings giving up three runs on three hits, one walk and striking out three..
