ALTAMONT -- Altamont Junior High School scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 5-4 win over  Vandalia in softball action Tuesday.

 

It was a pitcher's dual. Altamont's Blaire Suckow went all seven innings on the mound striking out 14 batters. She allowed four runs on five hits and gave up only two walks. Suckow's opponent on the mound, B. Sefton, struck out 14 while giving up four hits and walking five.

Vandalia held a 1-0 lead in the first and a 2-0 lead in the top of the third but Altamont tallied three in the bottom of the inning to move ahead 3-2. Vandalia regained the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Altamont scored a run in the bottom of the frame to knot the score at 4-4 then tallied the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Payton Ort and Alyssa Ruholl had two singles each. Ort added the lone RBI of the game.

At Dieterich

Cumberland edged Dieterich by a 9-8 count Tuesday.

Dieterich held a 2-1 opening inning lead but Cumberland tied in the top of the second and moved into a 4-2 lead in the top of the third. But here came Dieterich with three runs to move ahead 5-4 in the third.

Cumberland tied in the top of the fourth and moved into a 8-6 lead in the fifth. Dieterich tallied a single run in the sixth to pull within 8-7. Both teams then scored a single run in the seventh as Cumberland held on for the win.

The winners had 11 hits and were aided by seven Dieterich errors.

Dieterich was led by Emery Bill with three singles and four RBI while Claire Faller had two singles and Nora Wente a single and two RBI.

Cumberland was led by Josie Smith with three singles and two RBI, Brittlin Murphy with a single, triple and an RBI and Katie McElravy with two singles and an RBI.

At Neoga

Neoga broke a 1-1 opening inning tie with a two-run third and went on to tally a 4-2 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday.

Neoga had eight hits in the error-free contest. Maddi Frankie led the way for the winners with two doubles and two RBI while Lillian Denson added a single, triple and an RBI. Chloe Frankie finished with two singles and Reyna Coy added a single and an RBI.

Denson went the distance on the mound allowing two runs on six hits, eight walks while striking out 10.

At Neoga

At Newton

Lawrenceville Parkview came calling at Jasper County and went home a 9-7 winner.

Jasper County held a 1-0 opening inning lead. Parkview moved ahead in the top of the second but Jasper County tied at 2-2. The two teams were at 3-3 after three innings before Jasper County tallied three to move into a 6-3 lead in the fourth.

Parkview scored one in the fifth and then added five in the sixth to head for the victory.

Both teams had nine hits but Jasper County committed seven errors.

Jossie Stanley and Kraegan Groves led Jasper County in hitting. Stanley had two doubles and two RBI while Groves had a single, double and four RBI. Mabry Wolf and Khloee Copper finished with two singles each and Hailey Mulvey added a single and an RBI.

At Newton

At Louisville

North Clay/Clay City hosted Sigel St. Michael and fell to the Sharpshooters by a 16-0 count Tuesday.

North Clay/Clay City dropped to 1-3 on the season and returns to action Friday at Flora in a 4:30 p.m. contest.

 

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg struck quickly and captured a 13-2 win over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond in five innings via the 10-run rule Tuesday.

The Hatchets tallied two in the first, had a seven-run second, scored single runs in the third and fourth and finished with two in the fifth.

The winners had eight hits led by Kinsley Dunaway with a single, triple and two RBI, Kalia Friese with two singles and Arora Rincker with three RBI.

Friese picked up the pitching win, going 4.2 innings, allowing no runs on three hits, one walk while striking out eight.
