WSS, T-town, Newton Advance In Softball Regional Competition

HUTSONVILLE -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg downed Dieterich by an 8-1 tally to advance in the Class 1A Hutsonville Softball Regional Thursday.

The Hatchets edged out to a 2-1 lead on Dieterich then tacked on a single run in the third and led 6-0 after the fourth inning. WSS tallied two more in the sixth.

Samantha Hayes threw a three-hitter. She allowed one walk while striking out seven.

Windsor/Stew-Stras finished with nine hits. S. Hayes had a single, double and two RBI while Erin Althoff added a single, double and one RBI. Alaira Friese finished with two singles and drove in two runs. Mya Friese added a single and an RBI.

Dieterich had three hits led by Kinli Michl with two singles and an RBI and Ella Kreke with a single.

Altamont ant Hutsonville are on the agenda today to play at 4:30 p.m.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will take on the winner of the Altamont/Hutsonville contest Saturday at noon for the championship.

Class 2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

Teutopolis pounded Pana by a 13-6 tally Wednesday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 4-0 first inning lead and tacked on a single run in the top of the third. But Pana came back with four runs in the bottom of the frame. The two teams scored a run each in the fifth before T-town moved ahead 8-6 in the sixth and that's where the scoring ended.

T-town had 13 hits in the contest led by Malea Helmink with a double, home run and four RBI and Olivia Hemmen with a single, two doubles and three RBI. Summer Wall finished with a single and double and Chloe Hoene with two singles and an RBI.

Alyssa Tipton went five innings, giving up five runs on four hits, five walks and eight strikeouts. She picked up the pitching win. Hemmen came on to finish the final two innings, allowing one run on four hits, no walks and one strikeout.

The Wooden Shoes advance to the championship game and will take on Effingham St. Anthony Friday at 4 p.m. for the regional title. The game can be heard on KJ Country 102.3.

Class 2A Newton Regional

Two games were contested at the Newton Regional Wednesday.

The homestanding Eagles opened with a 6-3 victory over Lawrenceville.

Newton took a 4-0 opening inning lead.  Lawrenceville came back with two in the top of the fourth but the Eagles retaliated with two in the bottom of the frame. Lawrenceville had one final run in the sixth.

The Eagles had seven hits led by Sally Mahaffey with a single, double and two RBI while Allie Hermann had a single, double and one RBI. Lexie Grove finished with a triple. Lilly Kessler added a single and an RBI.

Amelia Collins threw an eight-hitter, allowing three runs. She gave up one walk and struck out four.

In the second game, Flora edged Robinson, 2-1.

Newton and Flora will now square off at 4:30 p.m Friday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City saw its season come to a close with a 16-2 loss to host Casey-Westfield Wednesday.

The Warriors had three-run innings in the first and second, then brought home nine runs in the fourth and finished with one in the fifth.

CHBC had three hits led by Macee Rodman with a single and double, Ryleigh Sarver with a single and Marissa Summers with an RBI.

In the second contest, Moweaqua Central A&M blanked Martinsville, 7-0.

Casey-Westfield will now meet Moweaqua Central A&M at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the championship game.

Tolono Unity won over Monticello by a 10-4 count in Wednesday's action.

Tolono Unity will now meet St. Joseph-Ogden Saturday at 11 a.m. for the regional championship.
