T-town, SEB, C'land Win Openers, Softball Regional Roundup

Teutopolis opened play in the Class 2A Effingham St. Anthony Softball Regional with a 16-1 victory over Cerro Gordo/Bement Monday.

The Wooden Shoes ripped out to an 11-0 opening inning lead then tacked on four in the second and one in the third. The game ended in the fourth.

T-town had 14 hits in the contest. Chloe Hoene had a single, double and drove in three runs while Summer Wall had a triple and two RBI. Kylie Borries had two singles and an RBI while Korynn Westendorf added two singles. Olivia Wermert finished with a double. Kayleigh Zerrusen had a single and two RBI while Olivie Copple, Kera Hartke, Malea Helmink, Clara Mette and Mallory Bloemer all had a single and an RBI each. Jersey Gaddis added an RBI.

Olivia Hemmen went four innings on the mound, allowng one run on three hits. She did not give up a walk and struck out one.

The other contest in the St. Anthony Regional, Shelbyville at Sullivan, was postponed to Tuesday.

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

The lone game in this regional, Neoga against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, was postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday.

 

Class 1A South Central Regional

St. Elmo/Brownstown opened play at the South Central Regional with a victory.

The Eagles downed Webber Township (Bluford) 17-7 behind a 12-hit attack.

Webber Township opened up a 1-0 first inning lead and held it until the third when SEB went on a six-run scoring surge in the third inning. Webber Township pulled within 6-5 in the fourth. SEB moved into a 7-5 lead in the fifth but here came Webber Township again, this time with two runs to knot the score at 7-7.

St. Elmo/Brownstown then had a 10-run seventh to end the contest with the victory.

The Eagles were led by Alivia Claycomb with three singles, a double and two RBI while Jayna Ireland added two singles, a double and two RBI. Macey Sapp finished with a single, double and an RBI and Kelly Moss two singles and two RBI. Daisy Chandler added a single and an RBI.

Dayana Haslett went the distance on the mound. She gave up seven runs on seven hits, 10 walks and struck out four.

St. Elmo/Brownstown advances to face top-seeded South Central. The game was scheduled for today at 3:30 p.m. followed by Red Hill (Bridgeport) against North Clay/Clay City at 5, weather permitting.

In the opening game of this regional, the host squad, Hutsonville, downed Oblong 10-3.

Hutsonville advances to face No. 2 Altamont today at 4:30 p.m., weather permitting.

 

Class 2A St. Joseph-Ogden Regional

Cumberland won the opener in the St. Joseph-Ogden Regional. The Pirates defeated Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 7-5.

The two teams went scoreless through two innings before Cumberland tallied a run in the third then had a six-run fourth. ALAH rallied with single runs in the fourth and fifth and three in the seventh only to fall.

Cumberland had 10 hits. Libby McGinnis had two singles and an RBI for the Pirates while Katie Kingery added two singles. Avery Donsbach had a single and two RBI and Jade Carr a single and an RBI.

Mia Holsapple went the distance on the mound. She allowed 12 hits, one walk and struck out five.

No. 8 seeded Cumberland will advance to face No. 2 St. Joseph-Ogden today at 4:30 p.m., weather permitting.
