Richland County Defeats EHS, S. Central Wins In Softball

OLNEY -- Richland County edged Effingham 7-6 in a high school softball contest Monday.

The Tigers ran out to a 3-0 first inning lead. EHS came back with a run in the top of the fifth, however Richland County scored four more in the bottom of the frame to lead 7-1. The Hearts scored another single run in the sixth and made a comeback bid in the seventh with four runs but fell short of tying the contest.

EHS outhit Richland County 11-9. Natalie Armstrong hit the long ball with a home run and four RBI. Raegan Boone added three singles and an RBI. Alyssa Martin finished with a single and triple while Sidney Donaldson had two singles and an RBI and Mya Harvey two singles.

Richland County's Kaiya Seessengood led the way in hitting with a double, triple and three RBI and also picked up the pitching win. She went seven innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, no walks and striking out three.

At Farina

South Central tallied an 11-1 victory over Dieterich in a regular season softball contest Monday.

The Cougars ran out to a 3-0 first inning lead and led 6-1 after two. South Central went on to end the game in the sixth via the 10-run rule, 11-1.

South Central finished with 11 hits. Lauren Johnson had a single, double and five RBI while Taegan Webster finished with two singles and a double. Amelia Montes added a single and two RBI.

Webster went 5.2 innings on the mound. She gave up one run on four hits, one walk while striking out five.

Dieterich was led in hitting by Lucie Jansen with a single, triple and an RBI.
