Bulldogs, Eagles, Maroons, Cardinals Claim Softball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony moved into a 2-0 lead in the second inning and went on to tally a 4-1 victory over Flora in high school softball action Monday.

Abbie Hatton led the seven-hit Bulldogs attack with a single, home run and one RBI. Maddie Kibler had a single, double and an RBI. Stacie Vonderheide added an RBI.

The Bulldogs held a 2-0 lead in the second. Flora came back with one in the third but St. Anthony taliled one to match in the fourth and pushed across the final run in the sixth.

Sydney Kibler went four innings for the win on the mound. She gave up one run on two hits, three walks and struck out six. Addie Wernsing came on to finish the final three innings allowing no hits, one walk while striking out five.

At Casey

Newton took the early lead and never looked back in a 9-0 victory over Casey-Westfield Monday.

The Eagles banged out 10 hits in the contest. Lexie Grove led the way with two singles, a double and an RBI. Allie Stanley added two singles. Sally Mahaffey and Avery Mulvey finished with a single and an RBI each.

Amelia Collins went all seven innings allowing no runs on five hits, two walks while striking out four.

Newton improved to 22-7 on the season and is in a three-way tie for first in the Little Illini Conference with a 6-1 record.

At Beecher City

Dieterich handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City an 18-6 loss behind a 14-hit attack Monday.

CHBC took a 2-0 opening inning lead and pushed that to 4-0 in the second. Dieterich came back with four runs in the top of the third. The score was tied at 6-6 after four innings.

Dieterich then went on a run, scoring six in the fifth, one in the sixth and finishing out with five in the seventh.

The Maroons were led by Lucie Jansen with two singles, a double and two RBI, Kinley Will two singles, a double and one RBI. E. Meinhart added a single, double and two RBI while Callie Faller had a double and two RBI. Ella Kreke had two singles and two RBI. Marli Michl had a single and three RBI. Allie Uthell and Cassidy Goebel had a single and an RBI each. E. Meinhart added a single and two RBI and Cassidy Goebel finished with an RBI. 

Kreke picked up the win. She came on to throw 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk.

CHBC was led by Lena Bowlin with a single, double and an RBI, Marissa Summers with two singles and two RBI, Ryleigh Sarver and Koda Colman with a single and an RBI each. Macee Rodman added an RBI.

At Louisvile

North Clay (Louisville) beat Neoga by an 11-1 score Monday.

The Cardinals improved to 2-5 in the National Trail Conference, 3-10 overall.

North Clay will be back in action Wednesday at Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

 

At Mattoon

Mattoon edged Cumberland by a 7-5 tally in Monday competition.

The Green Wave pushed into a 3-0 opening inning lead and tallied a single run in the third and fourth innings and two in the sixth.

Cumberland had 10 hits led by Libby McGinnis with a single, two doubles and two RBI, Jadalyn Sowers with a single, double and an RBI, Avery Donsbach with a double and an RBI, Jade Carr with two singles and Suzy Fritts with a single and an RBI.

At Mattoon
