St. A Wins Cross Creek Classic, EHS Claims Robinson Tourney Title

Effingham St. Anthony won the Cross Creek Softball Classic over Teutopolis 14-1 Friday in a game heard on 979XFM.
The Bulldogs didn't fool around, jumping out to a 5-0 opening inning lead. They tacked on four runs in the fourth and finished out with five in the seventh.
Three players garnered three hits each in the 18-hit attack. Maddie Kibler had two singles, a double and four RBI while Abbie Hatton had two singles, a double and two RBI. Stacie Vonderheide then had three singles and two RBI. Addy Rios and Laney Coffin had two singles and an RBI each. Addie Wernsing had two singles. Sydney Kibler had a single and two RBI and Addie Wernsing added two singles. Hailey Niebrugge added a single and an RBI.
S. Kibler went four innings on the mound for the victory. She allowed one run on one hit, three walks and struck out five. Wernsing came on to finish out three innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out two.
The Wooden Shoes finished with two hits. Cecilia Apke had a single and an RBI and Olivia Copple a single.

At Effingham
Effingham competed in the Robinson Tournament and won the championship Saturday.
The Hearts defeated Lawrenceville, 4-1 in the first game. The Hearts tallied two in the third. Lawrenceville scored one in the fourth. The Hearts then put the contest away with a two-run sixth.
Saige Althoff hit a solo home run while Mya Harvey had a double and two RBI.
Natalie Armstrong threw the victory on the mound. She went all seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, one walk and striking out three.
Effingham then blanked Fairfield, 6-0. The Hearts edged out to 1-0 lead in the third inning then had a five-run fifth.
This time around the Hearts had seven hits led by Sidney Donaldson with a triple and two RBI, Jerzi Bierman with two singles adn an RBI, Ryley Engel with asingle and two RBI and raegan Boone with a single and an RBI.
Althoff went the distance, allowing three hits, one walk while striking out eight.
The Hearts then defeated Robinson 8-6 in the championship game.
The Maroons took a 1-0 opening inning lead and pushed that to 2-0 in the second. The Hearts then moved ahead with a three-run third. Robinson regained the lead with four runs in the top of the fifth to lead 6-3. But the Hearts tied in the bottom of the frame then scored two runs in the sixth for the victory.
Effingham was outhit by an 11-9 count. Natalie Armstrong didn't have a hit in the first two games but came through with a single, home run and drove in four. Boone had a single, double and two RBI while Donaldson had a single, double and an RBI. Bierman chipped in with a single and an RBI.
Althoff started the game and went four innings, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out two. Armstrong came on for the victory, going three innings, allowing four runs on five hits, and one strikeout.
Dieterich also competed in the tournament and fell in all three games. Robinson blanked Dieterich 7-0. The Maroons took a 3-0 opening inning lead and tallied a run in the third and three in the fourth.
Dieterich finished with five hits led by E. Meinhart with a single and double and E. Meinhart with two singles.
North Central was a 13-7 winner behind a 12-hit attack. North Central had a 4-3 lead after four innings then added on a single run in the fifth and four in the sixth and seventh for the win.
The Maroons had eight hits led by E. Meinhart with a single, home run and four RBI, Callie Faller with two singles, Ruby Westendorf with a triple and Lucie Jansen with a single and an RBI.
Lawrenceville blanked Dieterich, 5-0. Lawrenceville took a 1-0 first inning lead, tacked on single runs in the third and fifth and two in the sixth.
Dieterich had three hits, all singles by Ella Kreke, Faller and Meinhart.

Friday Game
Newton tallied an 11-1 victory over Dieterich Friday.
The Eagles stepped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning, then tacked on three in the third and sixth innings.
Newton had nine hits and was aided by seven walks and seven errors.
The Eagles were led by Sally Mahaffey with a triple and two RBI, Avery Mulvey with a double, Lexie Grove with two singles and an RBI, Bailee Frichtl with a single and two RBI, Lilly Kessler with a single and two RBI and Allie Stanley with a single and an RBI.
Dieterich was led by Kinli Michl with two singles, a double and an RBI.
Amelia Collins was the winning pitcher for Newton, going three innings, giving up one hit and striking out eight.
