Teutopolis took a 1-0 first inning lead and went on to down Effingham 7-1 in high school softball competition Monday in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

The Wooden Shoes' Summer Wall knocked out a home run in the leadoff spot.

Effingham tied the score in the third inning. With one out, Alyssa Martin singled. With two outs, Jerzi Bierman singled Martin home.

T-town came back with two runs in the third to regain the lead. Wall again started the frame off, this time with a double. Chloe Hoene drew a walk and Malea Helmink singled both runners home and the Shoes held a 3-1 lead.

The Shoes added on three more runs in the fifth for a 7-1 lead. Hoene led off by drawing a walk. Helmink then followed with a home run. Mallory Bloemer doubled. With one out, CJ Apke hit a two-run homer.

The Hearts had runners on in the fourth, fifth and six innings but couldn't get them home.

Alyssa Tipton threw a seven-hitter for the win on the mound. She gave up 12 hits, three walks and struck out 11.

Wall finished with a single, double and an RBI to lead the Shoes offensively. Helmink had a single, home run and four RBI while Apke added a single, home run and two RBI..

The Hearts were led by Raegan Boone with a double while Bierman had two singles and an RBI and Sidney Donaldson two singles.

T-town is now 12-12 on the season while Effingham dropped to 11-7.

At Dieterich

Effingham St. Anthony pitchers combined for eight strikeouts and allowed only one walk as the Bulldogs blanked Dieterich, 8-0 Monday.

The Bulldogs tallied two runs in the third and fourth innings, one in the fifth and finished with three in the sixth.

Sydney Kibler went four innings on the mound for the win, giving up one hit, one walk while striking out five. Addie Wernsing came on in the fifth to throw three innings, alliowing one hit and striking out three.

Wernsing, meanwhile, was on offensively with two doubles and two RBI. Abbie Hatton added two singles and two RBI while Maddie Kibler had a triple and an RBI. Laney Coffin had two singles and S. Kibler and Ady Rios a single and an RBI each.

Dieterich finished with two hits, both singles by Callie Faller.

At Newton

Newton had to go 11 innings before pulling out a 3-2 victory over Richland County Monday.

The Eagles opened the game with two runs in the first inning. Richland County tied with two runs in the fifth. That's where the scoring ended until the bottom of the 11th when Newton tallied the winning run.

The Eagles finished with 10 hits in the contest led by Lexie Grove with three singles, a double and an RBI. Avery Mulvey added two singles.

Mulvey went seven innings on the mound, allowing two runs on two hits, one walk and striking out six. Amelia Collins came on to pick up the win, going four innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.

At Newton

Altamont's Ella Nelson threw a no-hitter as the Indians tallied a 16-1 victory over Neoga Monday.

Nelson went the four innings, allowing one run on no hits, two walks and striking out two.

Meanwhile, Altamont banged out 11 hits led by Kylie Osteen with two singles, a double and an RBI. Brianna Grunloh had a single, double and two RBI while Peyton Osteen added a double and an RBI. Sophia Pearcy, Laila Hankins and Cecelia Pearcy finished with a single and two RBI each. Claire Boehm and Grace Lemke had a single and an RBI each.

At Altamont

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City stepped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and went on to hand Ramsey a 7-4 loss Monday.

The Bobcats finished with 12 hits. Ryleigh Sarver had two singles, a home run and an  RBI. Marissa Summers added a single, double and an RBI. Birgen Schlanser and Lena Bowlin finished with two singles and an RBI each.

Summers threw the win, going all seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits, one walk and striking out five.

At Beecher City

Windsor;/Stewardson-Strasburg came calling and handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a 17-0 loss in four innings Monday.

The Hatchets ran out to an 8-0 first inning lead and never looked back. They finished with 14 hits in the contest led by Cameron Carey with two doubles and two RBI, Clarissa Johnson with two doubles and one RBI, Kendra Hayes with a single, double and two RBI, Mya Friese with a double and two RBI, Samantha Hayes with two singles and an RBI. Zaida Wascher with a single and two RBI, Alaira Friese with a single and an RBI and Shae Conder with an RBI.

K. Hayes went two innings for the pitching win, allowing one hit and striking out four. M. Friese came on to finish the final two innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

SEB was led by Daisy Chandler, Jayna Ireland and Macey Sapp with a single each.

At Brownstown

At Farina

South Central picked up an 18-1 victory over North Clay (Louisville) Monday.

The Cardinals dropped to 1-5 in the National Trail Conference and 2-8 overall.

North Clay is back in action today at Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in a 4:30 p.m. contest.

 

At Lawrenceville

Cumberland tallied a run in the seventh to claim a 4-3 victory over Lawrenceville Monday.

The score was tied at 1-1 in the third inning and 3-3 in the fifth.

Jenna Hougham had two doubles for the winners while Jade Carr had two singles and an RBI and Ashton Tolen three RBI.

Aubrey Himes was the winning pitcher going 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and three walks.
