Bulldogs, Indians, Maroons Nab Victories, WSS Falls In Softball

NEWTON -- Effingham St. Anthony took the early lead then had to have a big inning in the seventh to capture a 7-4 victory over Newton in girls softball Tuesday.

The Bulldogs pushed across two runs in the third but Newton tied in the fifth. St. Anthony moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the sixth but again the Eagles tied in the bottom of the frame.

That's when the Bulldogs broke loose for a four-run seventh and held Newton to one run for the victory.

Sydney Kibler threw a seven-hitter allowing four runs, giving up four walks and striking out one.

St. Anthony had eight hits led by Hailey Niebrugge with a double, home run and three RBI. Abbie Hatton chipped in with a single, double and two RBI while S. Kibler had a triple and two RBI. Addy Rios added two singles.

Newton was led by Audrie Reich with two singles, Lexie Grove and Lilly Kessler with a single and an RBI each and Camryn Martin with an RBI.

At Altamont

Altamont put together a five-hit attack while two pitchers were holding Ramsey to three hits in a 6-2 victory Tuesday.

The Indians edged ahead 2-0 in the third but Ramsey tied in the fourth. Altamont then had a three-run fifth and finished off with one in the sixth

Ella Nelson started on the mound going four innings, allowing two runs on three hits, five walks and striking out three. Grace Lemke came on in the fifth and went three innings for the win. She gave up no runs, hits or walks and struck out nine.

Meanwhile, Altamont had five hits led by Laila Hankins with a single, double and an RBI and Lemke and Madison Tonn a single and an RBI. The Indians also took advantage of seven Ramsey errors.

At Dieterich

Dieterich tallied two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 5-4 win over Robinson Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons held a 2-0 lead after two innings but Robinson came back with a run in the third and moved ahead 4-2 in the fifth. Dieterich pulled within 4-3 in the sixth and won in the seventh.

Ruby Westendorf had a double and drove in two runs for the winners. E. Meinhart had a double and an RBI and E. Meinhart two singles and an RBI.

Marli Michl went all seven innings on the mound, allowing four runs on eight hits, three walks and striking out three.

Robinson committed five errors in the contest.

At Strasburg

In a tough contest, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell to Casey-Westfield by a 4-2 count Tuesday.

The Hatchets edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead. Casey-Westfield moved ahead 2-1 in the top of the third but only for a short time as WSS tied the score in the bottom of the frame.

The Warriors then had single runs in the fifth and seventh for the victory behind an eight-hit attack.

Windsor/Stew-Stras finished with five hits led by Samantha Hayes with two singles and Erin Althoff with a single and an RBI. Kendra Hayes added an RBI.

S. Hayes was the tough-luck loser, going seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, one walk and striking out one.
