Bulldogs Bounce Robinson, Newton, T-town Win, Softball Roundup

The Effingham St. Anthony Bulldogs didn't let any grass grow under their collective feet as they pounded Robinson, 18-8 in five high school softball innings Tuesday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 3-0 opening inning lead. Robinson moved ahead 5-3 in the top of the second. But the Bulldogs took over and ended this contest in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

St. Anthony put on an offensive show with 15 hits. Sydney Kibler led the way with a single, two home runs and six RBI. Maddie Kibler added a home run and two RBI while Ady Rios hit two singles, a triple and drove in two runs. Hailey Niebrugge and Abbie Hatton added two singles each. Hatton drove in two runs while Niebrugge had an RBI. Laney Coffin added a double.

Addie Wernsing picked up the pitching victory, going 3.1 innings, allowing six hits, seven runs, two walks and one strikeout. S. Kibler finished 1.2 innings allowing one run, three walks and one strikeout.

Robinson finished with six hits and committed two errors. St. Anthony had three errors.

At Newton

Flora took a 1-0 first inning lead and led 2-1 after four. But Newton came back to move ahead 3-2 in the fifth.

Flora then tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the seventh but here came the Eagles once again. Newton scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 victory.

Camryn Martin hit a home run and had two RBI for the Eagles. Lexie Grove added a triple while Lilly Kessler hit a double.

Amelia Collins went the distance on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits, three walks while striking out nine.

At Newton

At Toledo

Teutopolis edged Cumberland by an 8-7 score in Tuesday action.

The Wooden Shoes held a 3-0 opening inning lead and led 6-3 after four innings. Cumberland came back within 8-6 in the sixth and rallied only to fall short in the bottom of the seventh.

Kayleigh Zerrusen led the way for the Shoes with four singles and four RBI as they finished with 14 hits in the contest. Alyssa Tipton added two singles and two RBI while Olivia Copple had two singles and an RBI. CJ Apke added a double, C. Hoene two singles and Olivia Wermert a single and an RBI.

Tipton went six innings for the victory on the mound. She gave up six runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out nine. Hemmen finished the final inning allowing one run on two hits.

Cumberland was led by Libby McGinnis with a single and triple, Noraa Cross with two singles and three RBI, Jenna Hougham with double and an RBI and Jade Carr and Katie Kingery with a single and an RBI each.

At Toledo

At Carlyle

Grace Lemke threw a no-hitter for Altamont but the Indians still fell to Carlyle by a 3-0 count Tuesday.

Carlyle scored a lone run in the first inning then tacked on two more in the sixth despite being no-hit.

Altamont had one hit, a triple by Peyton Osteen. The Indians committed two errors in the contest.

Carlyle's Eversgerd threw a one-hitter. She didn't give up a walk and struck out 16.

At Marshall

Marshall scored the winning run in the bottom of the second to edge Dieterich, 5-4 Tuesday.

Marshall held a 1-0 first inning lead before Dieterich knotted the score in the third. Marshall moved ahead 2-1 in the fourth.

The Movin' Maroons took the lead at 3-2 in the top of the fifth but Marshall came back with two in the bottom of the frame to lead 4-3.

Dieterich then tied the score in this see-saw battle in the top of the seventh only to see Marshall win in the bottom of the frame.

Marshall had 10 hits but commited five errors.

Dieterich had five hits led by Ella Kreke with two singles and a double and Kinli Michael with a home run and two RBI.

At Marshall

St. Elmo/Brownstown ran into a tough Nokomis team and fell 23-2 in four innings Tuesday.

Nokomis ran off to a 9-1 opening inning lead and never looked back behind an 18-hit attack.

St Elmo/Brownstown had five hits, all singles by Dayana Haslett, Keelie Miller, Macey Sapp, Jayna Ireland and Taylor Claycomb. Ireland had an RBI.

Nokomis pitcher C. Dirks went the 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, one walk while striking out five.

At St. Elmo
