Jasper Co. Advances At State Softball Tourney, S. Central Falls

Jasper County blanked Monticello in the opener by a 10-0 count. Jasper County stepped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and ended the contest in the fifth inning.
The winners were led by Lexie Ghast with three singles and two RBI, Gabbie Flowers with two singles and a double, Jorjia Reich and Maleah Miller with two singles and an RBI each, Emma Inyart with two singles and Paige Wagner with a double.
Ghast picked up the win in the mound, going three innings, allowing no hits while walking two and striking out four. Inyart came on to throw the final two innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out two.
In other first round games, Beardstown downed Princeton Logan 7-0, Metamora won over Williamsville, 12-1 and Beecher blanked Tolono Unity 6-0.
In the second contest, Beecher blanked Jasper County, 6-0.
Beecher edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead, tacked on a single run in the second and finished out with three in the sixth.
Jasper County had three hits, all singles by Wagner, Miller and Inyart.
In the other contest, Metamora won over Beardstown 5-1.
Jasper County (16-1) and Beardstown (19-2) square off today at 4:30 p.m. for third place while Metamora (6-18) and Beecher (25-2) meet at 6:30 for the state championship.

Class 1A State Tournament
South Central saw its season come to a close in opening round play at the Class 1A State Tournament at Champion Fields in Normal.
South Central edged out to a 3-2 lead in the second inning against Pontiac St. Mary's. St. Mary's then tallied two in the fifth and finished out with one in the seventh for the 5-3 victory
South Central had five hits led by Rylan Williams with two singles and an RBI, Emmie Ruholl with two singles and Addy Ruholl with a single and two RBI.
The squad finishes season play with an 18-3 record.
In other first round games, Cambridge edged Brimfield 2-1, Carrollton St. John had a 2-1 win over Stronghurst West Central and Mazon-Verona-Kinsman downed Bloomington Corpus Christi 10-7.
In the second round, Cambridge beat Carrollton St. Johns 10-1 and Pontiac St. Mary's won over Mazon-Verona-Kinsman 17-1.
Today's finals feature Carrollton St. Johns (14-4) against Mazon-Verona-Kinsman (15-4) at 4:30 p.m. for third place and Cambridge (19-2) taking on Pontiac St. Mary's (26-1) at 6:30 for the state championship
