Junior High Softball Regionals, Regular Season -- Sept. 7

Dieterich advanced in the Class 1A Hutsonville Softball Regional Thursday.

Dieterich bounced Martinsville by a 13-3 count and will now face Paris Crestwood Saturday at noon.

In the opener Saturday, top-seeded Neoga faces Sigel St. Michael at 10 a.m.

The championship game is set for Tuesday at 5 p.m.

 

Class 1A South Central Regional

Saturday's finals have been set in the South Central Regional.

South Central meets St. Elmo/Brownstown at 10 a.m.

In the second contest, Effingham St. Anthony takes on Ramsey at 11:30.

The winners advance to the championship game Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 2A Pana Regional

Only one local team will be playing in Saturday competition in the Pana Regional.

In the opener, Pana takes on Macon Meridian at 9 a.m.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, the No. 1 seed, will square off against fifth-seeded Sullivan at 11:30 a.m.

The winners meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for the championship.

 

Class 2A Teutopolis Reigonal

Teuotpolis advanced in its own regional Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes defeated Vandalia, 9-5. Now the third-seeded Shoes will meet second-seeded Altamont at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

In the opener Saturday, Jasper County, the top-seed, will take on fourth-seeded Cumberland at 9.

The winners will meet at 4:30 p..m. Tuesday for the regional title.

 

Class 4A Mattoon Regional

Mattoon and Mount Zion both picked up victories in the Mattoon Regional Thursday.

Mattoon downed Taylorville 10-0 in the opener. In the second contest, Mount Zion blanked Decatur Montessori Academy for Peace, 13-0.

Mattoon advances to meet Charleston at 10 a.m .Saturday while second-seed Effingham will meet Mount Zion at noon.

The winners will advance to the championship game Tuesday at 5 p.m.

 

Regular Season

Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 5-2 victory over Altamont Thursday.

The Bullpups took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning and tacked on two more in the sixth. Altamont scored its runs in the sixth and seventh.

St. Anthony had four hits led by Emeline Wines with a double. Paylin Wilhour had a single and two RBI and Peyton Clark an RBI.

Chloe Kelley threw a two-hitter, allowing two walks and striking out five for the pitching win.

Altamont was led by Alyssa Ruholl with a single and an RBI and Ada Roberts with a single.

At Casey

Casey-Westfield tallied an 11-1 victory over Effingham in five innings Thursday.

The score was knotted at 1-1 in the top of the second but Casey-Westfield scored four in the bottom of the frame, then tacked on five in the fourth and ended the game with one in the fifth.

The Mustangs had only three hits led by Keagyn Koenig with a double. Addi Barnes had a single and an RBI and Elizabeth Kreke a single.
