Charleston took the early lead and never looked back in a 7-1 win over Effingham in junior high softball action Monday.

Charleston edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a two-run third. Effingham tallied a run in the fourth but Charleston came back with a run in the fifth and finished out with three in the seventh.

Charleston had seven hits and was aided by five Mustang errors.

Effingham had six hits led by Keagyn Koenig and Molly Maxedon with a double each and Madi Summers with two singles.

At Altamont

Altamont took a 2-0 lead in the second inning but North Clay came back to knot the score in the third and move ahead with two in the fifth for a 4-2 victory Monday.

North Clay had only one hit, a single and an RBI by S. Pontious.

Altamont had three hits but committed five errors. Ada Roberts, Teegan Burrus and Reagan Kuenstler had a single each.

Pontious picked up the pitching win for North Clay, going all seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits, three walks and striking out five.

Sophia Long picked up the loss on the mound despite striking out 14 batters.

At Altamont

At Neoga

Neoga ran out to a 10-3 opening inning lead and never looked back in a 20-5 win over Villa Grove Monday.

Neoga had eight hits led by Hannah Propst with a home run and two RBI. Maleah Coy had two singles and two RBI. Kenli Westendorf and Lola Hartke had one hit and one RBI each.

Maleah Coy went three innings, allowing five runs on three hits, one walk while striking out seven for the win on the mound.

Neoga is now 9-4 on the season.

Cumberland ended this game in the sixth, 13-3 over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Monday.

ALAH went out to a 2-1 first inning lead and led 3-1 after two. Cumberland scored one in the third then opened the game up with five in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Cumberland had 11 hits led by Lauren Schnepper who had four hits and four RBI. Jude Miller had one hit and three RBI, Ava Long one hit and three RBI and Baya Carter one hit and two RBI. Brittlin Murphy had two hits and was the winning pitcher.
