MATTOON -- Effingham came through late in the game to down Mattoon 9-3 in girls junior high softball Tuesday.

Mattoon took a 1-0 second inning lead and pushed that to 3-0 in the third. But the Mustangs came back to knot the score at 3-3 in the top of the fourth. Effingham then won the contest with a six-run sixth inning.

Effingham had nine hits in the contest led by Keagyn Koenig with a single and triple, Elizabeth Kreke with a single, double and an RBI, Madi Summers with a triple and two RBI, Molly Maxedon with a single and two RBI and Seatyn Atlhoff with two singles and an RBI.

Aubrey Poe was the winning pitcher. She went all seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits. She did not give up a walk and struck out three.

At St. Anthony

St. Anthony stepped out to a 3-1 first inning lead and ended this game in the sixth via the 10-run rule, 16-6 over Shelbyville Tuesday.

The Bullpups had nine hits in the contest led by Reese Hoene with a triple and two RBI, Mallory Litz with two singles and three RBI, Claire Kinkelaar had two singles and an RBI and Sylvie Schumacher a double. Emeline Wines and Peyton Clark had a single and drove in a run each.

Chloe Kelley was the winning pitcher. She allowed six runs on eight hits, walked four and struck out seven.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg put together 17 runs to hand Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 17-1 loss in four innings Tuesday.

WSS had nine hits. Vonderheide and Wittenberg had a single and a triple each. Wittenberg finished with three RBI. Rincker had a single, double and one RBI. Bostedo added a double and two RBI and Wetherell a triple and an RBI.

Wittenberg was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits.

Brylie Prater had double for CHBC while Allison Shields had a single. The Hornets had nine errors.

Sophia Long threw a one-hitter as Altamont tallied a 6-2 win over Cumberland Tuesday.

Long went seven innings, allowing two runs on one hit, five walks and striking out four.

Altamont took a 5-0 lead in the third and tacked on a single run in the fourth. Cumberland's two runs came in the fifth and sixth.

Ada Roberts led the way offensively with a single, double and two RBI for the winners. Jocelyn Pearcy added a single and double. Long and Alyson Alwardt had a single and an RBI each.

Cumberland's hit was a single by Baya Carter.

Neoga played host to Sigel St. Michael and ended this contest in the fifth inning, 17-7 Tuesday.

Neoga had 10 hits in the game led by Lillian Denson with two hits and four RBI and Hannah Propst with two hits and an RBI. Kenli Westendorf and Maddie Frankie had one hit and two RBI each.

Neoga is now 5-2 on the season.
