MULBERRY GROVE -- Effingham St. Anthony stepped out to a 6-1 opening inning lead and trounced Mulberry Grove, 23-5 in junior high softball competition Monday.

The Bullpups had a 14-run second inning and finished off with three in the third.

St. Anthony had six hits and was aided by four Mulberry Grove errors and 10 walks.

The Bullpups took a 6-1 opening inning lead then had a 14-run second and finished the game with three in the third.

Alexa Wagner had a single, double and drove in three runs while Chloe Kelley had a double and an RBI and Sylvie Schumacher had a single and an RBI. Michaela Prange had two RBI.

Kelley was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on four hits, one walk while striking out four. Emeline Wines finished the last inning, allowing two runs on one hit and one strikeout.

At Shelbyville

Altamont moved into the early lead but Shelbyville Moulton came back with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to claim an 11-10 victory Monday.

Altamont led 1-0 after the first but Shelbyville tallied four in the second. Altamont tied the score in the top of the third but Shelbyville again moved ahead 5-4. Altamont tallied two in the fourth to lead 6-5 but here came Shelbyville once again, tying the score in the bottom of the fourth then moved ahead with two in the fifth.

Altamont tied in the sixth and took a 9-8 lead in the top of the sixth only to see Shelbyville tie in the bottom of the frame. Altamont again moved ahead by one run in the top of the eighth. Shelbyville then tallied two in the bottom of the frame to end the contest.

Altamont had seven hits in the game led by S. Long and A. Roberts with two singles and an RBI each. R. Kuenstler and A. Schnarre had a single and an RBI each.

At Strasburg

South Central came calling and claimed an 8-2 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Monday.

South Central had nine hits in the game and was aided by four WSS errors.

Windsor/Stew-Stras took a 1-0 lead in the third and the score was tied at 2-2 after four innings. South Central moved ahead 4-2 in the top of the sixth and tacked on four more runs in the seventh.

Maddie Peddicord went all seven innings on the mound, striking out 11 in the contest. She allowed two runs on three hits and one walk.

Peddicord also aided her own cause with a single and double. Baylee Brown and Kyndi Bolen had two singles and an RBI each. Annie Ruholl added a single and three RBI.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by K. Wetherell with a single and an RBI.

At Newton

Jasper County played host to Cumberland and sent the Raiders home with an 8-4 defeat Monday.

Cumberland edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead and led 3-1 after two innings and 4-1 in the top of the fourth. But Jasper County pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth then had a five-run fifth to put the contest away.

Jasper County had five hits led by Jacee Dhom with a single and double and Lexie Ghast with a single and two RBI. Gabbie Flowers added an RBI.

Ghast was the winning pitcher. She went the distance allowing four runs on two hits, three walks and striking out five.

Cumberland was led by Brittlin Murphy and Baya Carter with a single each. Kinley McMechan added an RBI.

At Newton

Cerro Gordo/Bement took a 2-0 first inning lead and went on to blank Neoga by a 6-0 count Monday.

Cerro Gordo/Bement  tallied four runs in the fifth and had six hits in the contest.

Maleah Coy had the lone hit for Neoga.

Hannah Propst was the tough-luck loser on the mound. She went the distance allowing only six hits, one walk while striking out 14.

Neoga drops to 4-2 on the season.
