C-W Beats WSS In Softball Sectional, EHS Falls In Regional

Class 1A South Central Sectional

Casey-Westfield took a 1-0 first inning lead and never looked back in downing Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 8-0 to win the South Central Softball Sectional Friday.

The Warriors banged out 11 hits in the contest led by Kam Smith with four singles and two RBI, Paige Cutright with two singles and an RBI and Allyson Truelove with two singles

The Hatchets could muster only two hits against Cutright, singles by Sam Hayes and Cameron Carey. Windsor/Stew-Stras finished with three erors in the contest.

Casey-Westfield advances to the Johnston City Super-Sectional Monday to face Goreville at 10 a.m.

Class 3A Centralia Regional

Charleston  5, Effingham 2  (The Hearts took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a base hit by Abby Cunningham and a double by Mya Harvey. An errant pick off throw by Charleston's catcher sailed into left field and allowed Cunningham to score. Charleston responded with three runs in the second inning including a two-run home run by Blair Ritchey to put the Trojans up 3-1.

Sidney Donaldson homered over the center field fence to pull Effingham within 3-2, but Charleston scored in the fourth and again in the sixth inning to post the three-run win.
