St. Anthony Posts Sweep in City Series 2023; Other Friday Scores

The St. Anthony Bulldogs came from behind to defeat the Effingham Flaming Hearts 9-4 Friday to sweep the 2023 City Softball Series. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3.
The Bulldogs trailed the Hearts 2-0 until tying the contest in the fifth inning. The Hearts bounced back, though, and scored twice in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead 4-2.
St. Anthony came back to score three runs in the sixth inning to take their first lead of the game, 5-4, then scored four more times in the seventh on back to back home runs, a three-run shot by Anna Faber and a solo homer by Abby Hatton to post the five-run victory.
Effingham took a 2-0 lead in the second on back to back run scoring singles by Jennifer Jamison and Natalie Armstrong. St. Anthony tied the game in the fifth on a two-run double by Addie Wernsing. The three-run Bulldogs rally in the sixth featured a two-run double by Hatton.
Lucy Fearday took over the pitching for the Bulldogs in the sixth after Sydney Kibler started the contest. Kibler gave up four runs on six hits, walking two and fanning four. Fearday pitched two innings, allowing no baseruners and fanning one batter.
Natalie Armstrong went the distance for Effingham, allowing the nine runs on 12 hits, striking out one against four walks.

St. Anthony is now 19-3, while Effingham slips to 17-11.
