Effingham St. Anthony players celebrate their National Trail Conference Tournament softball championship.
Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament Thursday at Evergreen Hollow Park.
The Bulldogs took on South Central for the title and handed the Cougars a 7-1 loss.
St. Anthony started quickly, scoring two runs in the opening inning. Cameran Rios singled to start the frame and stole second. Ady Rios drew a walk. With two outs, Lucy Fearday singled home a run and the Bulldogs held a 2-0 first inning lead.
The Bulldogs came back with four in the second to lead 6-0. With one out, Abbi Hatton hit a solo home run. Stacie Vonderheide followed with a triple. C. Rios drew a walk and again stole second. Addie Wernsing then knocked in two runs with a double and Haley Niebrugge folllowed with a run-scoring single.
South Central scored a run in the fifth. With one out, Amelia Montes hit a single. Kyra Swift followed with a single and Jaylyn Michel hit a double, scoring Montes.
St. Anthony tallied a final run in the sixth. C Rios reached on an error, stole second and went to third on an error. She came home on a single by Wernsing.
The Bulldogs finished with an 11-hit attack.
Fearday was the winner on the mound going all seven innings, allowing eight hits, one walk and striking out seven.
South Central finished with eight hits in the contest led by Michel with a single, double and an RBI while Kinlee Thompson with a single and double. Ella Watwood had two singles.
In the third place contest, Sam Hayes threw a no-hitter as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Altamont, 5-0.
Hayes went the full seven innings, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks while striking out 11.
The two teams played to a 0-0 tie through the first two innings before Windsor/Stew-Stras broke loose with two runs in the third. The Hatchets tacked on three more in the fifth.
WSS had four hits led by Ava Richards with a single, double and three RBI. Ella Kinkelaar and Ellie Wittenberg had the other two hits, singles.
Dieterich was the winner in the consolation championship. The Movin' Maroons won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City by an 8-3 counts.
The Maroons banged out 12 hits in the game led by Brittney Niemerg with a single and double, Eva Meinhart with two singles and three RBI, Estella Meinhart had a double and an RBI and Lucie Jansen two singles and an RBI. Addi Huber and Ruby Westendorf had two singles each and Callie Faller a single and two RBI.
Niemerg went seven innings on the mound, allowing three runs on five hits, one walk while striking out nine.
CHBC was led by Koda Colman with a double and an RBI and Ryleigh Sarver with two singles. Averie Vaughn added a single and an RBI.

Teutopolis edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead and went on to down Cumberland, 5-3 Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes had nine hits in the contest led by Malea Helmink with two singles and two RBI, Summer Wall with a single and double, Emiliy Konkel with two singles and an RBI, Danielle Sarchet with two singles and Kaylee Niebrugge with a single and an RBI.
Courtney Gibson went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits, five walks and striking out nine.
Cumberland was led by Avery Donsbach with two singles and an RBI, Jade Carr with two singles and Liz Wilson with a single and an RBI.
