Hearts, Bulldogs, Maroons, Eagles Win In Softball

ALTAMONT -- Effingham High School's Natalie Armstrong threw a no-hitter as the Hearts ran off to a 5-0 first inning lead and went on to blank Altamont, 14-0 in five high school softball innings Tuesday.

Armstrong struck out 11 in the five innings. She did not allow a run, hit or walk in the contest.

The Hearts tallied nine more runs in the fourth.

Armstrong also aided her cause by leading the Hearts offensively. Armstrong had two singles and drove in three runs. Jerzi Bierman added a double and Jennifer Jamison and Mya Harvey had a single and an RBI each.

At Tolono Unity

Effingham St. Anthony went eight innings before pulling out an 8-5 victory over Tolono Unity Tuesday.

Tolono Unity took a 2-0 first inning lead. St. Anthony taliled a run in the third and tied in the sixth. The Bulldogs moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the seventh but Tolono Unity came back to knot the score, sending the contest into the eighth.

St. Anthony then had a five-run top of the inning and had to hold off the Rockets who came back with two runs only to fall short.

The Bulldogs banged out 12 hits in the contest. Cameran Rios led the way with two triples, a home run and two RBI. Abbie Hatton added a double, home run and two RBI. Ady Rios added a triple and Anna Faber had two singles and an RBI and Hailey Niebrugge two singles. Sydney Kibler had a single and an RBI.

S. Kibler came on in relief to throw six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, two walks and striking out five for the pitching win.

At Cowden

Dieterich broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run third and went on to down Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 11-1 in five innings Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons had 10 hits in the contest and were aided by six CHBC errors.

Eva Meinhart and Allie Uthell had a single and double each. Meinhart added an RBI for the Maroons. Lucie Jansen added a triple and two RBI while Callie Faller had two singles and two RBI and Estella Meinhart two singles and an RBI. Elle Kreke had a single and an RBI.

Kreke was the winner on the mound, going all five innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

CHBC was led by Ruby Stuckemeyer and Averie Vaughn with a single each. Macee Rodman had an RBI.

At Dieterich

At Newton

Newton took the early lead and never relented in a 6-3 win over Mount Carmel Tuesday.

The Eagles tallied two runs in the first and second innings and single runs in the fourth and sixth.

Bailee Frichtl had three singles and three RBI while Addy O'Dell had two singles and a double. Lexie Grove had two singles. Avery Mulvey had a single and an RBI.

Kayla Kocher went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, three walks and striking out five.

At Newton

At Marshall

Marshall played host to Teutopolis and sent the Wooden Shoes home with a 14-3 loss in six innings Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes moved out to a 1-0 lead in the first and held that until the third when Marshall scored two runs. T-town tied in the top of the fourth. But Marshall came back with six-run innings in the fifth and sixth.

Marshall had 14 hits in the game and T-town finished with five errors.

The Shoes had six hits led by Danielle Sarchet and Erin Althoff with a double each. Sarchet had an RBI. Emily Konkel had a single and an RBI.

Marshall's Cornwell was the pitching winner allowing three runs on six hits, one walk and striking out four.
