Effingham High School captured three softball victories during weekend action 

In a Friday contest, the Hearts bounced Champaign Central by an 18-6 count in five innings.

EHS stepped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and didn't look back.

The Hearts had 16 hits, nine of those for extra bases. Leading the way was Mya Harvey with three home runs and four RBI, Riley Cunningham with a double, home run and three RBI, Jerzi Bierman with a double, home run and one RBI, Sidney Donaldson with a single, home run and four RBI. Kristen Armstrong with a double and an RBI, Raegan Boone with two singles and three RBI and Bria Beals with two singles.

Natalie Armstrong picked up the victory on the mound. She went three innings, allowing one run on one hit, no walks while striking out five.

The Hearts then swept a doubleheader from Mattoon. EHS edged the Green Wave 10-9 in the opener.

The score was tied at 7-7 after four innings. EHS moved ahead 8-7 in the sixth but Mattoon came back to take a 9-8 lead in the top of the seventh.

EHS mounted a rally and pulled out the victory with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Hearts again had the big bats with 15 hits. Donaldson had a single, three doubles and three RBI while Harvey had a double and solo home run. Ryley Engel had a single, double and an RBI, Bierman a double and Boone and Abby Cunningham with two singles each.

Armstrong went the distance, allowing nine runs on 13 hits, one walk and four strikeouts.

In the second contest, again the Hearts pulled out the victory, this time going nine innings before taking a 13-12 win.

Mattoon led 11-9 after three innings and 12-10 after five. The game went into extra innings.

EHS again had a whopping 16 hits in the contest led by R. Cunningham with two singles, a triple and four RBI, Boone four singles and an RBI, Bierman a single and double, A. Cunningham a double and two RBI, Jennifer Jamison a double and an RBI, Harvey two singles and an RBI and Beals two singles. Donaldson added a single and two RBI.

Armstrong was the winner, going 8.1 innings allowing seven runs on eight hits, one walk and striking out eight.

At Monticello

Effingham St. Anthony finished with 17 hits and tallied an 18-2 win over Monticello in five innings Friday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, tacked on four runs in the third and three in the fourth and finished with a 10-run fifth.

Lucy Fearday had a double, home run and drove in four runs while Cameran Rios had two singles, a triple and an RBI. Stacie Vonderheide, Abbie Hatton and Anna Faber had a single and double each. Vonderheide tallied three RBI and Hatton two. Sydney Kibler added a double and an RBI.

Fearday went three innings, allowing one run on four hits, two walks and striking out two.

Teutopolis had a 10-run third inning and downed Flora 12-8 in Friday competition.

The Wooden Shoes had eight hits in the contest led by Kaylee Niebrugge with a single, double and four RBI and Olivia Copple and Emily Konkel with two singles and two RBI each.

Courtney Gibson went five innings on the mound, allowing six runs on eight hits, five walks while striking out two.

Newton ended this game over Altamont in the fifth inning by a 10-0 tally Friday.

The Eagles had two-run innings in the first and third wrapped around a single run in the second and five more in the fourth.

Amelia Collins went the five innings, allowing one hit, no walks while striking out nine.

Newton had six hits led by Addy O'Dell with a single, triple and an RBI, Avery Mulvey with a double and an RBI, Camryn Martin with two singles and two RBI and Lexie Grove with a single and an RBI.

Peyton Osteen had the lone hit for Altamont with a single.

South Central tallied a victory over Casey-Westfield by a 9-6 count Friday.

The Cougars held a 4-0 lead after three innings then had two-run innings in the fifth and sixth.

Taegan Webster went all seven innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Webster aided her own cause with a double and an RBI. Jaylyn Michel had a double, triple and an RBI, Brooklyn Garrett a single, two doubles and an RBI. Amelia Montes a double and two RBI and Abi Shuler two singles and three RBI.

South Central improved to 11-4 on the season and returns to action today at Teutopolis.

Dieterich blanked Tri-County, 15-0 in five innings Saturday.

The Movin' Maroons held a 3-0 first inning lead and tallied three in the second, one in the third and had four-run inings in the fourth and fifth.

Dieterich had 10 hits led by Brittney Niemerg with a single, double and two RBI, Estella Meinhart with a triple, Eva Meinhart with two singles and three RBI, Sammie Goebel with two singles and an RBI and Ruby Westendorf and Addi Huber with a single and an RBI each.

Dieterich then fell to Casey-Westfield, 8-3.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the first. The Warriors moved ahead with two in the third and had two in the fourth. Dieterich tallied two more runs in the fifth.

Dieterich had only two hits, a double by Es. Meinhart and a single by Goebel. Kreke had one RBI.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City competed at the Ramsey Tournament Saturday.

The Bobcats won their opening game against host Ramsey, 12-1.

Ramsey held a 1-0 first inning lead but CHBC tallied three in the second, one in the third, five in the fourth and ended the game with three in the fifth.

CHBC had seven hits led by Macee Rodman with a single, triple and two RBI, Adelyn Musson with a double, Madison Wojcik with a single and three RBI, Birgen Schlanser with a single and two RBI and Addison Wasson with two RBI.

CHBC then fell to Hillsboro, 8-4.

Hillsboro stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead. CHBC came back with two in the third but Hillsboro tacked on two more in the fifth and sixth innings.

CHBC outhit Hillsboro by a 10-5 count but committed four errors.

Rodman had two doubles and an RBI, Wojcik a single, double and an RBI and Averie Vaughn with two singles and an RBI.

Altamont competed in the Robinson Triangular Saturday with the host squad and Oblong.

Robinson tallied a 17-0 win over Altamont in the first game. The Maroons had a five-run first, a single run in the second and an 11-run third.

Altamont had only one hit, a single by Skylie Klein. The Indians committed 10 errors in the game.

Altamont then came back to blank Oblong, 3-0, scoring all three runs in the fifth.

Grace Lemke provided the spark, going all seven innings on the mound, striking out 20 and giving up only two walks.

Altamont had seven hits led by Osteen with two doubles and two RBI and Klein with a single and an RBI.
