WSS Wins, St. Anthony, S. Central Fall In Softball

STRASBURG -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had to go nine innings before claiming a 7-6 high school softball victory over Moweaqua Central A&M Wednesday.

Central A&M edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then added four in the second. The Hatchets hit the scoreboard with two runs in the second and tied the score at 5-5 with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Both teams scored a single run in the eighth before WSS won in the ninth.

The Hatchets outhit Central A&M by a 12-11 count. Alaira Friese had a single, double and two RBI while Ella Kinkelaar and Sam Hayes had three singles each. Hayes had an RBI. Kaylyn Carey finished with two singles and two RBI while Katelyn VonBehrens had a single and an RBI.

Hayes went the distance on the mound allowing six runs on 11 hits, five walks and six strikeouts.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony fell to Richland County, 7-6 Wednesday.

Richland County ripped out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning. The Bulldogs battled back with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The Tigers then had a single run in the top of the seventh that proved to be the winner. St. Anthony rallied for three in the bottom of the seventh only to fall a run short.

The Bulldogs had 10 hits in the contest led by Lucy Fearday with two doubles and three RBI. Abbie Hatton added a double while Addie Wernsing and Hailey Niebrugge had two singles each. Wernsing added an RBI.

At Effingham

At Flora

Flora played host to South Central and handed the Cougars a 13-3 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule Wednesday.

The Wolves took a 3-0 first inning lead and led 5-0 after two innings. South Central pulled within 5-3 in the third but Flora scored seven in the fourth and one in the fifth to end the contest.

Flora banged out 18 hits in the game. Ava Cammon hit two home runs and had four RBI while Leah Jones had three singles, a double and three RBI. Lanie Carder contributed two singles, a double and an RBI and Halle Kitley a single, double and two RBI.

South Central had only three hits, a home run and three RBI by Taegan Webster and two singles by Kaitlyn Swift.

The Cougars dropped to 10-4 on the season and return to action Friday at Casey-Westfield.
