Hearts Win Apollo Conference Softball Doubleheader

Effingham High School claimed an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader over Mahomet-Seymour Saturday.

The Hearts opened with a 6-1 victory, scoring two runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings. Mahomet-Seymour's lone run came in the seventh.

EHS had nine hits led by Sydney Donaldson with a solo home run, Kristen Armstrong and Riley Cunningham with two singles each, Mya Harvey with a double and Raegan Boone with a single and two RBI.

Natalie Armstrong went the distance, giving up one run on four hits, one walk while striking out nine.

In the second contest, the Hearts jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning with five runs. Mahomet-Seymour scored two in the third. But EHS answered back with three in the sixth for the 8-2 victory.

Both teams had four hits. EHS was led by Donaldson, A. Cunningham and Raegan Boone with a single and an RBI each. Jerzi Bierman added a single.

Armstrong again picked up the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, one walk and striking out three. R. Cunningham came on to finish the final inning with one walk.
