Effingham High School didn't score until the sixth inning but tallied all five runs to blank Tolono Unity 5-0 in softball action Tuesday.

The two teams played to a 0-0 tie through five before the Hearts cut loose.

Both teams had five hits but Tolono Unity committed two errors.

Kristen Armstrong led the Hearts with a single, double and two RBI. Raegan Boone added two singles. Abby Cunningham and Sidney Donaldson had an RBI each.

Natalie Armstrong went the distance on the mound, allowing no runs on five hits, no walks while striking out five.

At Toledo

Altamont came through in the bottom of the seventh inning to capture a 5-4 win over Cumberland Tuesday.

The Pirates moved ahead 2-0 in the first and led 4-0 after three. Altamont tallied two in the fifth and tied the score at 4-4 in the sixth before winning.

Grace Lemke led Altamont in hitting and on the mound. Lemke had a home run and two RBI. She picked up the pitching victory, going all seven innings, allowing four runs on four hitsm no walks while striking out 13.

Altamont was also led offensively by Presley Siebert with a double and an RBI and Peyton Osteen and Brianna Grunloh with a single and an RBI each.

Cumberland was led by Libby McGinnis with a single and two RBI. Jade Carr added an RBI.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg ended this contest in the fifth inning via the 10-run rule by a 15-0 count over Dieterich Tuesday.

The Hatchets banged out 12 hits in the contest. Ellie Wittenberg had a single, double and an RBI, Alexis Gee three singles and an RBI, Alaira Friese a single and double, Sam Porter a double and two RBI, Sam Hayes a triple and three RBI and Ava Richards two singles and two RBI.

Hayes went the five innings, allowing no runs on three hits, two walks and striking out five.

Dieterich was led by Ruby Westendorf, Estella Meinhart and Eva Meinhart with a single each.

Newton's Kayla Kocher threw a no-hitter as the Eagles blanked Hutsonville/Palestine, 16-0 in four innings Tuesday.

Kocher went the four innings, allowing no walks while striking out six.

Meanwhile, the Eagles had 11 hits led by Avery Mulvey with two triples and an RBI, Kocher with two doubles and two RBI and Addy O'Dell with a single, triple and two RBI. Bailee Frichtl added a single and two RBI while Lilly Kessler, Macy Barthelemy and Sally Mahaffey had a single and an RBI each.

Clay City/North Clay downed Webber Township (Bluford) by an 8-3 count Tuesday.

CC/NC took a 3-0 opening inning lead and led 5-0 after two. Webber tallied three in the third but that was it the rest of the way as North Clay tacked on another run in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Morgan Hance moved her record on the mound to 3-1. She went all seven innings allowing three hits, four walks and striking out 15.

Hance also was on offensively with a single, home run and fur RBI Leah Cartright had two singles, a double and two RBI while Carolyn Hurd had two singles.

CC/NC is now 3-1 on the season.

St. Elmo/Brownstown captured a 10-0 win over Okaw Valley in action Tuesday.

At Mount Zion

Mount Zion hosted Teuotpolis and sent the Wooden Shoes home with a 13-6 loss Tuesday.

The Braves took a 4-0 lead in the second inning. T-town came back with three in the third. Mount Zion led 4-3 in the fourth.

The Wooden Shoes then had a three-run fifth to move ahead 6-5 but that was short-lived as the Braves tallied three in the bottom of the fifth and five in the sixth.

T-town had nine hits in the contest led by Kaylee Niebrugge with two singles, a double and four RBI and Erin Althoff with a single, double and an RBI. Courtney Gibson had a single and an RBI.

At Mount Zion
