CLAY CITY -- North Clay/Clay City won its high school softball opener over St. Elmo/Brownstown, 16-1 in four innings Tuesday.

Morgan Hance picked up the pitching win, going all four innings, allowing one hit, one unearned run, five walks while striking out nine.

Hance also aided her own cause with two singles, two doubles and five RBI. Leah Cartright had three doubles and drove in five runs. Carolyn Hurd and Faith Jones had two singles each. Jones drove in two runs and Hurd one.

North Clay/Clay City is back in action Thursday at Wayne City.

At Louisville

Taegan Webster threw a one-hitter as South Central defeated Oblong, 10-0 in five innings Tuesday.

Weber allowed one walk while striking out 13.

Meanwhile, the Cougars were banging out 15 hits in the contest. Jaylyn Michel had a single, home run and an RBI while Brooklyn Garrett had three singles, a double and an RBI. Kyra Swift, Percilla Reid and Ella Watwood had two singles each.

South Central will be back in action Friday at Okaw Valley.

Newton's offense was on with 14 hits as the Eagles tallied a 13-1 victory over Flora Tuesday.

Newton edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then had three-run innings in the second and fourth wrapped around two in the third and finishing with four in the fifth.

Addy O'Dell had a single, triple and three RBI for the winners while Kayla Kocher had a double and triple, Bailee Frichtl a home run and had two RBI, Lilly Kessler a single, double and three RBI and Sally Mahaffey a triple.

Kocher went three innings for the win on the mound, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out three. Amelia Collins came in to throw two innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two.

Marshall came calling and picked up a five-inning victory over Dieterich by a 13-1 count Tuesday.

Marshall edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead then tacked on three in the second and four runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

McGuire went five innings for the win, allowing one run on three hits, one walk and striking out six.

Dieterich's Ella Kreke had a double to lead the Movin' Maroons.

The Maroons finished with 11 errors in the contest.

Carlyle traveled to Altamont and handed the Indians an 11-0 loss in six innings Thursday.

Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings. Carlyle then moved ahead 2-0 in the third inning and scored the rest of its runs over the next three innings.

A. Eversgerd went all six innings on the mound, allowing one hit, two walks while striking out 14.

The lone hit for Altamont was a single by Sophia Pearcy.

The Indians finished with five errors in the contest.
