CENTRALIA -- Effingham Junior High School had no trouble picking up a softball victory Thursday.

The Mustangs traveled to Centralia and handed the homestanders a 19-0 loss in five innings. EJHS tallied four runs in the first and second, five in the fourth and six in the fifth.

Aubrey Poe threw a three-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Poe also helped offensively with a single, double and an RBI while Gieah Schlanser had a single, triple and two RBI. Layla McBride added a double and two RBI and Amelia Koester a triple and an RBI. Kendyl Fearday and Keagyn Koenig had two RBI each.

At Centralia

At St. Anthony

Mattoon came calling and tallied a 12-4 win over Effingham St. Anthony Thursday.

The visitors took a quick 7-2 opening inning lead.

The Bullpups outhit Mattoon by a 12-10 count. Sophia Emmerich led the way with two singles, a double and an RBI while Emeline Wines had a triple and an RBI. Julia Schultz and Sadie Vineyard added two singles each. Schultz drove in a run. Myra Christie had two singles and Gianna Frisbie a single and an RBI.

St. Anthony dropped to 6-4 on the season.

At Dieterich

Altamont held off a challenge by Dieterich in the bottom of the seventh for a 13-10 win Thursday.

Dieterich took a 5-4 lead after three innings. Altamont tallied two in the fourth and led 10-8 in the fifth. Altamont scored two more ni the sixth and one in the seventh.

Dieterich then tallied two in the bottom of the frame only to fall short.

Ella Nelson had a single, a home run and two RBI for the winners. Cecilia Pearcy and Ada Roberts had two singles each. Laila Hankins added a single and two RBI and Haley Arend had two RBI.

Altamont improved to 1-0 in the National Trail Conference and 5-3 overall.

At St. Elmo

South Central blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown 11-0 in five innings Thursday.

Maddie Peddicord threw a perfect game for the winners, striking out 14.

South Central edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and tallied five in the second, two in the fourth and three in the fifth behind nine hits.

Peddicord aided her own cause with a single, triple and three RBI while Brianna Buchanan had a single, double and three RBI and Addy Ruholl two RBI.

South Central improved to 3-2 in the National Trail Conference, 6-4 overall and is back in action today against Sigel St. Michael.
