St. Anthony, T-town Advance To Regional Title Games

WINDSOR -- Effingham St. Anthony High School moved into the championship game of the Class 1A Windsor Softball Regional by blanking Bethany Okaw Valley 6-0 Tuesday.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 first inning lead then tallied one more in the fourth and fifth and three more in the sixth. St. Anthony had nine hits in the contest while Okaw Valley committed six errors.

Kristen Schuette had two singles, a triple and drove in two runs while Kate Richards and Megan Nuxoll had two singles each. Richards drove in a run.

Meghan Woltman picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts.

St. Anthony advances to the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. against the winner of the  Windsor vs. Stewardson-Strasburg game, which will be played today.

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Teutopolis banged out 13 hits and blanked Marshall 7-0 to reach the championship game.

The Wooden Shoes had three over the fence home runs in the contest. Apke had a single, double, home run and one RBI while Kadi Borries had a single, two home runs and three RBI and Stephens a single, home run and an RBI. Apke and Stephens home runs were back-to-back in the fifth.

K. Borries pitched a one-hitter with a walk and 12 strikeouts. T-town advances to the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. to face either Casey-Westfield or Robinson. Those two squads play today.

"This was a real nice way to start the regional for us," said T-town Coach Rich Niebrugge. "Kadi pitched real well and I was very happy with our defense tonight as we made all the routine plays. Our bats were making solid contact from the first inning and never stopped."

Class 1A St. Elmo Regional

Altamont and Mulberry Grove advanced to the championship game with victories Tuesday evening.

Altamont blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown 13-0 in five innings. Altamont stepped out to a 7-0 first inning lead and the game was over. The Indians had 18 hits in the contest. L. Ohnesorge had a single, double and three RBI while M. Ohnesorge went four-for-four with three singles, a double and two RBI. Phillips contributed a single, triple and two RBI and Ledbetter three singles and two RBI.

Ledbetter picked up the pitching win on a two-hiter with no walks and five strikeouts.

At Altamont

In the second game, Mulberry Grove handed South Central a 4-1 loss. Mulberry Grove led 4-0 after three innings. South Central tallied its lone run in the top of the fourth.

South Central had four hits but committed four errors. Whit, Cain, Crain and King had a single each. King drove in the lone run. The Cougars end the season with a 6-13 record.

At St. Elmo

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

Kaylee Carlen pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Cumberland blanked Dieterich 9-0 in its own Class 1A regional Tuesday.

The Pirates had four players with two hits each, Audrey Casey with a single, double and an RBI, Katie Poe with two singles and an RBI, Micah Seibert with two singles and three RBI and Taylor Layton with a single, double and an RBI.

Cumberland, the No. 5 team in Class 1A, will take on the winner of today's Hutsonville/Palestine vs. Oblong game in the Saturday championship at 11 a.m.

Class 1A Ramsey Regional

Nokomis defeated Raymond-Lincolnwood 11-3. Nokomis advances to face either Ramsey or Morrisonville Saturday at 11 a.m. for the championship.

Class 1A Noble Regional

Edwards County (Albion) and Noble were winners in the Noble Regional.

Edwards County defeated Cisne 8-1 in the opening game while Noble won over Red Hill (Bridgeport) 10-4.

Edwards County will face Noble at 11 a.m. Saturday for the championship.
