Hearts Pick Up Twinbill Victory

The Effingham Hearts captured a softball twinbill Saturday over Nokomis.
In the opener, the Hearts won 5-4 scoring the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh.
EHS led 3-0 until the top of the seventh when Nokomis came to life and scored four runs to take the lead. But the Hearts fought back with two runs in the bottom of the frame to pull out the victory.
Kaylee Tonn hit a sacrifice fly that scored the game-winning run. Alexis Osborn had a double and Morgan Wilson three singles. Brandy Pontious had a single and two RBI and Kelli Utz drove in the other RBI. Deedra Myers had two singles and picked up the pitching win.
In the second game, Effingham blanked Nokomis 7-0 behind on three hits. Nokomis committed five errors.
Tonn had a home run and drove in three runs while Kourtney Utz had a single and an RBI and Ke. Utz an RBI. Pontious had the other hit, a single. Collier was the winning pitcher on a two-hitter.
EHS is now 13-12 on the season and will host Salem in an Apollo Conference doubleheader today.
