S. Central Wins Own Softball Regional; Area Title Games Today

KINMUNDY -- South Central High School won its own Class 1A Softball Regional championship Friday.

The Cougars handed Altamont a 7-1 loss for the title. The Cougars broke a 1-1 third inning tie with four runs in the fourth and tacked on two more in the sixth.

Taegan Webster was the winner on the mound going all seven innings, allowing one run on three hits, three walks while striking out six.

Webster also had a single, double and drove in four runs. Kaitlyn Swift added a single, triple and an RBI.

Altamont had three singles by Peyton Osteen, Grace Lemke and Sophia Pearcy. The Indians finished with an 11-20 record.

South Central advances with a 24-10 record to the Casey-Westfield Sectional Tuesday against Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m.

Regional Championships Today

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will be playing for the Class 1A Oblong Regional title today. The Hatchets will square off against Hutsonville/Palestine at 5 p.m.

Effingham St. Anthony will meet Paris at 4:30 p.m. today in the championship of the Class 2A St. Joseph-Ogden Regional.

Newton will take on Staunton at 4:30 p.m. today for the championship of the Class 2A Vandalia Regional.
