Effingham St. Anthony blanked Marshall 6-0 in the Class 2A St. Joseph-Ogden Softball Regional Tuesday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on two in the third and three in the fourth.

Lucy Fearday threw a two-hitter allowing four walks and striking out nine.

Haley Niebrugge hit a solo shot while Cameran Rios had a single and double. Madeline Kibler added two singles and drove in a run while Sidney Kibler had a single and an RBI.

Marshall had five errors in the contest.

In the second game, Paris downed St. Joseph-Ogden by a 5-2 count.

St. Anthony advances to the regional championship Saturday and will take on Paris at 11 a.m. for the right to head to the Maroa-Forsyth Sectional Tuesday.

Class 1A Oblong Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg cruised to an easy victory over Oblong, 8-1 in the Class 1A Oblong Regional Tuesday.

The Hatchets got on board in the second inning with three runs. WSS then notched four runs in the fifth and finished off with a final run in the sixth. Oblong's lone run came in the sixth.

Karlie Bean threw a two-hitter with one walk while striking out 13.

WSS racked up 13 hits in the contest led by Sam Hayes with three singles and two RBI, Ella Kinkelaar with a single and triple, Natalie Hayes with three singles and an RBI, Bean with a double and two RBI, Gabby Vonderheide with a single and two RBI, Maddy Pfeiffer two singles and Ellie Wittenberg a single and an RBI.

Oblong's two hits came off the bat of H. Bricker with a single, double and the lone RBI.

In the second game of the day, Hutsonville/Palestine blanked Dieterich by a 9-0 count.

H/P edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning then had a seven-run fourth and tallied one final run in the sixth. H/P had nine hits in the game.

Dieterich had one hit, a single by Eva Meinhart.

Windsor/Stew-Stras advances to face Hutsonville/Palestine at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

Casey-Westfield blanked Neoga by a 13-0 count Tuesday.

The Warriors advance to the championship game Friday at 4:30 p.m. against either Cumberland of Moweaqua Central A&M. Those two teams are scheduled to play today, weather permitting.

 

Class 1A South Central Regional

Altamont and South Central advanced to the championship game of this regional with victories Tuesday.

South Central pounded Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 21-2 in four innings. The Cougars held a 13-0 opening inning lead then added on a single run in the second and seven in the third. CHBC's two runs came in the fourth.

Taegan Webster went all four innings on the mound allowing two hits, two walks while striking out nine.

Lily Malone led the way offensively for the Cougars with a single, double, home run and six RBI.  Webster aided her own cause with a single, home run and four RBI. Laney Webster added a single, double and two RBI while Brooklyn Garrett had a single, two doubles and three RBI. Halle Smith contributed a single, double and two RBI. Kaitlyn Swift finished with three singles and an RBI while Ella Watwood and Kyra Swift had two singles each. Swift added an RBI.

South Central improved to 23-10 on the season.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had two hits, singles by Marissa Summers and Honora Reed.

In the second contest of the day, Altamont blanked North Clay/Clay City, 2-0. The Indians scored both runs in the third inning.

Bailey Teasley went the distance on the mound. She struck out 16 batters and allowed only two hits and one walk.

Altamont had only four hits, two singles by Peyton Osteen and a single each by Claire Boehm and Sophia Pearcy.

North Clay/Clay City was led by Morgan Hance with two singles. The Wolves finish the year with a 3-9 record.

South Central and Altamont will square off for the regional championship Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Class 2A Tolono Unity Regional

Teutopolis saw its season come to a close with a 2-0 loss to Westville Tuesday in the Tolono Unity Reigonal.

Neither team scored through the first four innings. Westville then broke loose with a run in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Wooden Shoes could muster only two hits in the contest led by Olivia Copple with a double and Emily Konkel with a single.

Westville had seven hits.

In the opener Tuesday, Tolono Unity blanked Sullivan, 8-0.

Tolono Unity and Westville will meet for the regional championship Saturday at 10 a.m.

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Newton took out the host squad Tuesday by a 10-0 count in six innings.

The Eagles ran out to a 4-0 opening inning lead then tacked on two in the second, three in the fifth and finished out with one in the sixth for the 10-run rule.

Newton had 10 hits led by Addy O'Dell with a single and double, Ava Kessler with a double and three RBI, Lilly Kessler with two singles and Allie Stanley and Amber Russell with a single and two RBI each. Lexie Grove and Bailee Fritchl added a single and an RBI each.

Kayla Kocher went six innings allowing no runs on two hits, no walks while striking out six.

Newton advances to the championship game Friday at 4:30 p.m. against either Staunton or Greenville. Those two are scheduled to play today at 4:30 p.m., weather permitting.
