Shoes, Hatchets, Indians, Wolves Nab Softball Victories

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis played host to Effingham in high school softball action Tuesday and handed the Hearts a 6-4 loss.

Both teams tallied a run in the first inning. EHS went ahead 2-1 in the top of the second but the Wooden Shoes came back to move into a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the frame.

The Shoes tacked on three more in the fourth. EHS came back with two in the fifth but fell short.

Both teams had eight hits each. T-town was led by Erin Althoff with three singles and two RBI, Kaylee Niebrugge with a home run and two RBI, Daisha Piedra with a double and an RBI, Olivia Copple with two singles and Summer Wall with a single and an RBI.

Courtney Gibson went seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, five walks and five strikeouts.

The Hearts were led in hitting by Jennifer Jamison with a single and two RBI and Sawyer Althoff with a single and an RBI.

At Toledo

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg broke a 1-1 tie with Cumberland with a run in the third, then tacked on five in the fourth and nine in the seventh for a 16-2 win Tuesday.

In the first, the Hatchets' run came on a sacrifice fly by Karlie Bean. Cumberland tied in the bottom of the frame, scoring the run on an error.

Maddy Pfeiffer singled, scoring the go-ahead run in the third.

The Hatchets finished with a whopping 18 hits in the contest. Natalie Hayes had three singles and drove in two runs while Pfeiffer finished with three singles and three RBI. Kaylyn Carey had a single, double and two RBI, Alaira Friese two singles and an RBI and Ella Kinkelaar and Gabby Vonderheide with two singles each.

Cumberland had six hits, all singles by Zoe Mitchell, Libby McGinnis, Avery Donsbach, Chaney Thornton, Jadalyln Sowers and Grace Myers.

At Altamont

Altamont ran off to a 7-1 opening inning lead and never looked back in a 9-1 win over Dieterich Tuesday.

Both teams had six hits. Altamont was led by Ellie McManaway with a solo home run. Claire Boehm had two singles, a double and two RBI. Bailey Teasley had a single and an RBI and Sophia Pearcy had an RBI.

Dieterich was led by Kaitlyn Boerngen with a single and double and Eva Meinhart a single and an RBI

Altamont is 4-2 in the National Trail Conference, 9-18 overall.

At Grayville

North Clay/Clay City handed Grayville a 5-3 loss in eight innings Tuesday.

Morgan Hance went eight innings, allowing three hits, six walks and striking out 19 batters.

Kirstin Allen had a single, double, drew two walks, scored two runs and stole a base for the winners. Morgan Hance had two singles and an RBI.

North Clay/Clay City improved to 2-4 in the Midland Trail Conference and is 3-7 overall. The Wolves will be back in action Thursday against Lawrenceville.
