EHS Nabs Apollo Conference DH, MTC Softball Tourney

Effingham High School captured an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader over Taylorville Wednesday.

The Hearts blanked the Tornadoes 3-0 in the opener. EHS took a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on single runs in the third and fourth.

The Hearts had seven hits, all singles. Daelyn Dunston and Sawyer Althoff had a single and an RBI each. Sidney Donaldson added an RBI.

Saige Althoff picked up the win on the mound, going all seven frames, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out eight.

In the second game, the Hearts finished this one early by the 10-run rule, 12-2.

Saige Althoff again was the winning pitcher. She allowed two runs on two hits, no walks while striking out six.

Elena Niebrugge had the hot bat with a single, home run and five RBI. Mya Harvey added a double and two RBI while Jerzi Bierman had a single and double, Jennifer Jamison two singles and an RBI and Madi Kirk and Donaldson a single and an RBI each.

The Hearts finished the Apollo Conference season with a 7-5 record and stand at 13-10 overall.

At Clay City

In Wednesday games in the Midland Trail Conference Tournament, Odin defeated Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 4-1 while Woodlawn won over Waltonville, 2-1.

The finals will be held today, weather permitting. Odin will face Woodlawn at 6 p.m. for the championship while Christ Our Rock Lutheran will meet Waltonville at 4 for third place.
