Sam Hayes Throws No-Hitter In Softball Victory

WINDSOR -- Sam Hayes was brilliant in the circle Tuesday, throwing a no-hitter in leading Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg to an 18-0 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown in softball competition.

Hayes went three innings, allowing no hits, no walks while striking out four.

Meanwhile, the Hatchets collected 15 hits in the contest led by Karlie Bean with a single, double, triple and two RBI, Natalie Hayes with a single, double and four RBI, Ava Richards with a single, double, triple and an RBI and Kaylyn Carey with a single, double and two RBI. Ella Kinkelaar added two singles.

Windsor/Stew-Stras moved into a 5-0 lead in the second inning then tallied 13 runs in the third and the game ended in the fourth.

WSS didn't commit an error while St. Elmo/Brownstown had five in the contest.

The Hatchets return to action today, weather permitting, in the National Trail Conference Tournament. WSS will take on South Central at 6 p.m. at Evergreen Hollow Park in winner bracket action following the opener featuring Effingham St. Anthony against Altamont at 4:15 p.m. In consolation bracket play, St. Elmo/Brownstown will take on Neoga at 4:15 p.m. followed by Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City against Dieterich at 6.
