Newton Downs EHS To Win Robinson Tourney, Softball Roundup

The Eagles edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead. Effingham tied in the top of the third and moved ahead 2-1 in the top of the fourth. But Newton came back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Hearts pulled within 6-5 in the top of the sixth only to see the Eagles come back with another four-run inning in the bottom of the sixth.
Newton had seven hits led by Addy O'Dell with a single, double and two RBI. Allie Stanley, Bailee Frichtl and Avery Mulvey had a single and an RBi each.
For the Hearts, Jennifer Jamison had a single and double, Tori Budde a double, Daelyn Dunston two singles and Abby Cunningham, Saige Althoff and Jerzi Bierman a single and an RBI each.
In opening round games, Effingham downed Robinson, 11-6. The Hearts had 12 hits in the game. Saige Althoff had three singles and an RBI while Grace Bushur had a single, triple and an RBI. Riley Cunningham had four RBI. Sidney Donaldson contributed two singles and an RBI. Dunston had two singles.
Saige Althoff picked up the win on the mound allowing 11 hits, four walks and striking out four.
The Hearts won over Fairfield, 11-2. EHS swept out to a 7-0 opening inning lead then tacked on single runs in the second and sixth and two in the third.
EHS had 10 hits led by R. Cunningham with a single, hone run and three RBI, Bushur with two singles, a double and two RBI, A. Cunningham with a single and double and Jamison with a double and two RBI.
Sai. Althoff was the winner going two innings allowng no runs on one hit, two walks while striking out four.
Newton edged Hutsonville/Palestine, 2-1. The Eagles scored single runs in the first and second behind four hits.
Addy O'Dell had two doubles while Allie Stanley had two singles. Kayla "Kocher" had an RBI and was the winner on the mound going 5.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit, one walk while striking out 10.
Newton then won over Charleston 5-2. The Eagles tallied four runs int he second and never looked back.
"Kocher" again was the winning pitcher, going 5.2 innings allowing one run on four hits, no walks and striking out 11.
Ava Kessler had a single double and two RBI while Addy O'Dell had two singles. Amber Russell had a single and an RBI and Lilly Kessler added an RBI.

At Effingham
Effingham split an Apollo Conference doubleheader with Charleston Friday.
The Hearts were 7-1 winners. EHS took a 1-0 first inning lead, tacked on a run in the third and five in the fourth. Charleston's lone run came in the sixth.
Saige Althoff was the winning pitcher. Althoff went the distance allowing one run on six hits, no walks while striking out six.
Riley Cunningham hit the long ball for the Hearts and had two RBI. Abby Cunningham had three singles and an RBI while Grace Bushue had a single and three RBI. Sidney a single and an 1 RBI.
Effingham fell to the Trojans by a 9-4 count despite the fact the Hearts outhit Charleston 12-6.
EHS took a 1-0 third inning lead but Charleston came back with an eight-run fifth and then held off the Hearts as they attempted to rally with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
R. Cunningham had a single, double, home run and two RBI while A. Cunningham had a double and an RBI, Bushur a single and double and Donadlson two singles.

Salem edged South Central, 5-4 in Friday competition.
The Cougars opened with a 1-0 first inning lead and led 2-0 before Salem came back to lead 3-2 in the third. Salem tacked on another run in the fourth. South Central then scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the score at 4-4. The Wildcats won in the bottom of the seventh.
Both teams had seven hits. Taegan Webster had a single and two solo home runs for the Cougars. Laney Webster added a double.
South Central dropped to 14-8 and returns to action in the National Trail Conference Tournament today against Dieterich.

Greenville came calling and picked up a 5-1 victory over Altamont Friday.
Greenville took a1-0 first inning lead and Altamont tied in the third. Greenville then had two-run innings in the fourth and seventh.
Altamont was led by Ellie McManaway with a double, Claire Boehm with two singles and Peyton Osteen with a single and an RBI.
