St. Anthony Defeats Teutopolis in 2022 Cross Creek Classic

The St. Anthony Bulldogs defeated the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes 7-1 Friday night to win the 2022 Cross Creek Classic softball game. The contest was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Early runs were the difference as St. Anthony had built a 5-0 lead by the end of the second inning.

St. Anthony plated a run in the first inning after Cameran Rios started things with a single, was sacrificed along by Addie Wernsing, then was singled home by Hayley Niebrugge.

The Bulldogs scored four times in the second. A leadoff single by Maddie Kibler and a fielder's choice by Sidney Kibler and an error on the play was followed one out later by a run-scoring single by Abby Hatton and an error allowing Grace Karolewicz to reach base. A ground ball by Rios scored a third run and Wernsing singled home Karolewicz to make it 5-0.

Teutopolis scored a run in the fourth to pull within 5-1. Emily Konkel led off the inning with a double, a ground ball moved her to third and a sacrifice by Kaylee Niebrugge brought Konkel home with the run.

St. Anthony bounced back with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Hatton led off with a single, then Karolewicz singled home Hatton after she was able to move up a base, and Rios singled home Karolewicz to make it 7-1.

Lucy Fearday got the win for St. Anthony, going all seven innings, allowing the one run on just two hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Courtney Gibson took the loss for Teutopolis, pitching all six innings and allowing seven runs, four earned, on 10 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

St. Anthony improved to 18-3 with the win. Teutopolis is now 14-5 on the spring.
