T-town Edges WSS, Altamont, Newton Claim Softball Wins

STRASBURG -- Teutopolis trailed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 9-6 going into the final inning of high school softball action Thursday and the Wooden Shoes mounted a comeback to pull out a 10-9 victory.

T-town held a 2-0 lead after three innings and led 3-2 after four. But the Hatchets came back with a six-run fifth to lead 8-3. T-town tallied three in the sixth and WSS came back with one in the bottom of the frame.

T-town had 11 hits in the contest, three of those doubles. Emily Konkel led the way with a single, double and three RBI while Courtney Gibson had a single and double and Danielle Sarchet added a double. Daisha Piedra had a single and three RBI, Summer Wall had two singles and an RBI and Erin Althoff and Kaylee Niebrugge a single and an RBI each.

Gibson went the distance on the mound for the Shoes allowing nine runs on 12 hits, two walks and six strikeouts. T-town improved to 9-2 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras had 12 hits led by Gabby Vonderheide with three singles and three RBI, Maddy Pfeiffer with a single, double and an RBI, Ella Kinkelaar and Natalie Hayes with two singles each and Alaira Friese with a single and an RBI. Ava Richards and Kaylyn Carey added an RBI each.

At Cowden

Bailey Teasley threw a no-hitter as Altamont handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City an 11-0 loss in five innings Thursday.

Teasley struck out 14 in the five innings, allowing only one walk.

Meanwhile, Teasley also had a big offensive game with a single, home run and three RBI. Grace Lemke had a home run and two RBI and Juliana Berg a solo homer. Ellie McManaway had a single, double and an RBI and Adria Denton a double and an RBI. Brianna Grunloh added a single and two RBI.

At Cowden

At Marshall

Newton took the early lead and went on to end the contest in the sixth inning by a 16-5 count Thursday over Marshall.

The Eagles held a 5-0 lead in the second inning then tallied one in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth.

Newton had a 13-hit attack. Amber Russell had a single, home run and  four RBI. Allie Stanley and Ava Kessler had a single and double each. Kessler finished with three RBI. Avery Mulvey, Lexie Grove and Kayla Kocher had a double each. Mulvey added two RBI and Grove one. Addy O'Dell had two singles and two RBI.

Kocher was the winner on the mound, going three innings, allowing one run on one hit, no walks and four strikeouts.

At Marshall

At Dieterich

Hutsonville/Palestine edged Dieterich, 2-1 in Thursday action.

Hutsonville/Palestine tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Dieterich's run came in the sixth.

Dieterich had two hits in the game and committed four errors. Megan Bierman had both hits, a single and double.

Kaitlyn Boerngen went all seven innings, giving up two runs on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts to suffer the tough-luck loss.
